No More TGE 1.5.2 Upgrades?

by Spencer Cagan · in Torque Game Engine · 01/17/2009 (9:52 am) · 5 replies

Am I assuming that I can no longer upgrade my TGE to 1.5.2?

And before anyone says to upgrade to TGEA - I cannot (no shaders on my computer).

Also, TDN tells me that I need to be a "Forest Kit" member to access TGE content. I was able to access this before but I'm not able to now.

Anyone?

TGEA 1.8 runs quite well on every computer i have, even my old K7 with a radon 7000. I have not yet compared TGE 1.5 performance vrs TGE 1.8 on that system, but from simple compatibility testing it did run and render my test mission just as well as TGE. (Test mission is mission file from TGE 1.5 using textures and DTS taken from TGE, no fancy TGEA material settings configured)

Spencer Cagan try the demo on your computer for tgea and see if it works it should just fine even if you don't have shaders. when you go in game it just will not have shaders working. i don't know who i have always had a computer with the latest tec so i never had any problems with anything. it should work as all it is is a texture with come code added to it from the engine.

you should upgrade your computer though it sounds way outdated maybe 5-10 years old you should update every 5 years at lest. as after that your outdated or maybe just upgrade it now and you might not have to upgrade again as i don't think there's much tec left but making things higher stats now. we can make graphics look so real now that you can hardly tell the difference you cant go to much further then what we have now. you cant get real life looking exact not in a computer real is as far as you can get. we can get better still though but it will requite more poly count in order to do that that is where higher stat computers come in.

one day we will all have 100gb ram and who knows what gpu we will have to have computers with more then one gpu as we cant really make it smaller then they already are all we can do is ad quads to it. 1tb is allot of space but not really though i can fill it up my self in mater of fact i can fill it up with just movie files as i already have. we will all have 100tb computers one day. :P it will be far far be for we get these stats as they have to make money and lower the price after the research is payed off then work on next so on so forth.

@Caylo
Thanks. Good to know.

@Brandon
I tried the demo - I didn't get past the installation. But I think you may be right, my computer is outdated (P3/600MHZ/Win2K). I can run the TGE 1.52 demo on it fine, but not TGEA.

wow that very very outdated have not seen one that small for years. even if you did get it to run you would lag in the engine with that computer. it is time for a update no question about that. computers are cheap now at lest for a good small one i payed allot for my high end one, but you can easily fined a fairly good one cheap.

Thing is there's still people developing for older PCs. I'm currently working on a project (not a game) that targets people with extinct pcs too.

I think I've read that TGE wont get upgrades anymore. Not huge ones anyway.
