What is a blog?

by Gary Roberson · in Site Feedback · 01/15/2009 (5:26 pm) · 3 replies

You would think that since I consider myself a computer professional that i would know what a blog is?

but recentlly, I have been asked by some of my friends (and I've heard this term used in such shows as CSI:Miami or NCIS) and I ahven't got an answer for them!!

But exactly what is a blog? or the definition of a blog? how is it different from a forum post? a web link? a prduct advertisemnet? a product brochure?

Blog comes from weblog (or web log).

From the wikipedia entry:

A blog (a contraction of the term "Web log") is a Web site, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order.

Thanks Ross.

i suppose it is just one more reason for someone to run his mouth to another person who is willing to listen.

An interesting side note, in the developer world (and before blogs/weblogs were used) a developer would post or share a .plan - This was their means of communication as to future development/projects/milestones/etc. And for a while the GarageGames' "Blogs" were known as .plans
