Forums changed?

by Vern Jensen · in Torque Game Builder · 01/14/2009 (8:50 pm) · 18 replies

So there used to be separate forums for Bugs, General Discussion, C++ Engine, Newcomers, etc. Today I log on and it seems GarageGames has overhauled their entire site. Is everything for TGB in just one forum now, or am I missing something?

I don't have a particular problem with it, just want to be sure I'm not missing forums that exist, and I just don't know where they are.

One forum now, yes.

Yes, it looks like. They said that newcomers were confused by to many forums. Well, I get confused by just one forum for everything. I think they want to set a new standard here. How forums are organized. LOL

What the ... ?!

It's not like I need anything for TGB now, but still... a new search function is not a replacement for forum categories.

Hmmm, it's truly unfortunate that the new forums don't contain a link to the thread you're following when you get notified of a Topic Reply via email. I'll take functionality over pretty looks anyday.

I have to say I preferred to have categorized forums.
Would it be possible to have some catogery tool for the posts? Like a tag or something?

I'd say I preferred categories as well. The organization let you look at threads that you were interested in. Can anyone fill us in on the logic of why one forum is better over several categorized ones?

Keep good feedback like this coming and be sure to post it in the website feedback forum. We're trying some new things and if they don't work we'll try things until they do work :)

I actually like them together. But I don't like the main forum page by default hiding all of the forums. I'd rather have them visible

I much prefered the seperate forums. Much easier to find the stuff you are actually interested in, instead of having to sift through many posts.

What might help this is tagging threads with relevant tags (maybe pre-set ones that can replace the different sub forums). That way you can filter based on tags, but people don't have to go to completely different forums to see the other posts :)

Personally for me, it's not so much all forums being combined into one, as it is that [SNIP]. Oh I take that back. Turns out the [code] tags do work now. Cool.

Only other thing is that email notification of reply to a topic is far less useful (no link back to the thread, and the email itself is hard to read.)

Am I really the first dude to notice this?

Everyone is a "Torque Owner", whether they are employed by Garage Games, associated to Garage Games, bought a game from Garage Games, or do not even know what Garage Games or Torque is. Seriously, someone show me a forum participant who is not a "Torque Owner". Come now. Who are the web devs for this place? If you are going to be communistic about forum ranks, at least make it interesting (and strangely less communist, though more communist sounding)

New Forum Titles:

Previously: Employee Now: Revered Commissar of the People
Previously: Associate Now: Honorable People's Chairman
Previously: Member Now: Honored Patron
Previously: Anything else Now: Proletarian scum

We should probably still keep the old catagories, but just default the main page to show everything.. Best of both worlds. I can't find the "help" though and forgot how to post a youtube vid.

Nic, just click the "MarkupLite is enabled" link that is above the text box for posting. I discovered that accidentally. I am so old school, I thought it was still BBC. . .

Fewer categories than previous,
More than now.

I prefer to have categorized forums and to be able to select the reply to my email inbox as well. Damn, I hate to lose time searching and getting lost in the new forum.

Damnation!

I just have discovered that I can´t check anymore my created or followed forums threads. That´s a very bad notice. And GG says that all this changes are to help the newcomers? I feel that GG has turned me into a newcomer right now :( and all this without any notice.

It's better to keep features that work for everybody.
Because right now this all in one forum is not organized or categorized.
As matter of fact I've been irritated about it for a month now.

GG should of had a tester website for everyone to checkout before bringing this new setup online. That would have prepared people before the change over.
