Hello all,
Welcome to the new site. We know there's a lot of new stuff to check out, and things are a bit different than they used to be (mostly for the better). Please post your thoughts on the website on this thread. We'll cull through them over the next few weeks and put it in the priority stack to fix in future iterations of the site.

I did notice one thing missing that I had been keeping an eye on... the GarageGames jobs page.

I like the new site overall. The main page and product pages are nice and clean, and the organization in the menus is good. I can't comment much on the forums portion not having been a regular poster.I did notice one thing missing that I had been keeping an eye on... the GarageGames jobs page.

Linux is apparently supported and Built-in Theora video codec playback is also supported. Besides that, it looks great.

Thank you for updating the TGEA product page, but you did forget 2 things:Linux is apparently supported and Built-in Theora video codec playback is also supported. Besides that, it looks great.

Also, it would be nice if the sections were added back to the TGEA private forums (bugs, shaders etc..) its a real hassle to find the old TGEA 1.7.1 bugs to fix a crash when you have to go through 16-17 pages just to reach them.

Can we have a Constructor forum back? Perhaps 4 forums for constructor were too many, but at least ONE, ok? Otherwise the posts just get lost in the noise. :(

The new site looks very nice, very professional. Great update, I was pleasantly surprised when I came to the site!

@Jaimi - Constructor forum is coming back. The posts had all gotten merged into "Artists Corner" but we are putting them back into a dedicated Constructor forum.

What about the Private Forums glitch? I want to get back into the TGB private forums. And yes, I DO have TGB.

I never noticed the color change -- I'm colorblind (extremely rare form of it actually) -- only the shading of things in general had changed for me, and the layout of course. But I finally figured it out! That whatever these colors are (or shades of color), they're not appealing (to me) and that's why I was initially turned off by the new direction. The same thing happened a few months ago on the Last.fm site -- it underwent a drastic overhaul and color scheme change that caused a reduction in it's community and looking at the two side by side I see an awful similarity (same website template maybe?). But then that's just me.
What about a future update/feature for site color themes that would let us pick from a selection of contrasting color schemes so that some of us could cope better? Shouldn't be too difficult to do and you could still always leave the current color theme (whatever it is) as the default.

Here's one for you: I know that overall scheme and art direction, colors, layout...all of that is subjective from one person to another. I personally mentioned that the site seemed sterile and bland to me -- structurally I'm sure it will grow on me -- but something has been nagging me all day as I would come and go, and I finally realized what it was. I keep seeing mention of the old yellow color and the new blue and white, or is it purple? I even just saw a comment about eyestrain and headache caused by all of the white.I never noticed the color change -- I'm colorblind (extremely rare form of it actually) -- only the shading of things in general had changed for me, and the layout of course. ...an Option to use the old site untill this one worked would have been nice. Dealing with the bugs in TGEA 1.8 is something I expect. Dealing with the loss of major resources, .zip files for example, is not something I expect to deal with nor do I feel I should have to...

Indeed - testing of a new forum should be performed by GG staff, not by users of the forum. If you want users to test a new forum, make it voluntary. I really need to read some threads on the iTGB forum today and can't. This forum 'upgrade' is delaying the release of my game and therefore costing me money.

@Conor: I know this is a PITA for iTGB in particular. I'm sorry about that. We expect to have this fixed by the weekend. In the meantime, you're definitely welcome to email Mich or the iTorque devs directly with any issues.

That brings me to something else, I like the watched threads section on the forums main page but this will become to big for those of us that like to watch a lot of threads. Maybe that should be moved into it's own page. I know you guys are working on stuff but I would really like my watched threads back.
01/14/2009 (10:35 pm)
Kenneth, I like many others have been around the GG site for years and had been watching probably 100+ threads. Those settings did not get migrated to the new site. It should be a fairly easy query to move our watched post settings from the old site db to the new site db. Please tell me that is in the plan as well, I do not relish the thought of having to hunt down all those threads just to click a checkbox. That brings me to something else, I like the watched threads section on the forums main page but this will become to big for those of us that like to watch a lot of threads. Not sure if that was suggested before, but I think the "About the Author box" (I really like the idea) under the first forums post needs too much space and should be optional. A link that expands/collapses that information would be better IMO.

If not, those features would be really cool.

Is there an rss feed for the Blogs, Resources, or What's New/Featured Blogs pages? If not, those features would be really cool.

The colors are also a little heavy on the eyes ... I am unable to navigate the site for extended periods ... :(
It almost feels like the whole Garage Games community has become disjointed ... not a whole entity ... can't seem to put my finger on the problem though. :(

No RSS ... *sigh* ... I use that feature quite extensively ... browsing the latest RSS articles from my desktop and then clicking on the links that interest me.The colors are also a little heavy on the eyes ... I am unable to navigate the site for extended periods ... :(
