New GarageGames.com Feedback

by Deborah M. Fike · in Site Feedback · 01/13/2009 (6:25 pm) · 242 replies

Hello all,

Welcome to the new site. We know there's a lot of new stuff to check out, and things are a bit different than they used to be (mostly for the better). Please post your thoughts on the website on this thread. We'll cull through them over the next few weeks and put it in the priority stack to fix in future iterations of the site.

Ok... its not "ul" tags... its "ol" tags that are broken... see http://www.garagegames.com/community/blogs/view/10961.

A few more...

  • We need post editing back... but how about adding 'preview' while we're at it!
  • TDN is broken... it gets a "HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found".
  • I really liked the filter for employee, associate, and community blogs on the old whats new page.
  • The 'Advanced Search' page is really long... you can't tell you got results from the search because of it.

Even more...

  • Add a page listing at the top of the reply listing as well as the end.
  • As a product seller on the site... i'd like to get my sales reports back sometime soon. :)
  • Author search looks at the content of the posts... it shouldn't... it should only look at the authors.
  • What the heck does 'Created From' and 'To' mean on the advanced search page?
  • Missing the ''Notify me of new replies' on blogs and resources.
  • Did the 'Notify me of new replies' options from the old site get lost in the transition? I have years worth of old forum posts marked so i can tell when people reply to things... it would suck to have lost all that.

Speaking of dates being incorrect, I just noticed that these posts are coming out as January 14th. Unfortunately, it is currently January 13th, 1958 hours in Oregon. It is January 14th over the Atlantic and eastward, just not here.

I would kind of expect the dates to match Oregon time since GG is still in Oregon. 8)

And even more...

  • When you post a new reply it should take you to the last page and scroll down to your post... not go to the first page of the blog/resource/thread.
  • On the Resources tab it says 'Submit a' instead of 'Submit a Resource.
  • What happens when i have hundreds of 'watched threads' on the forums like i used to have on the old site?
  • Its hard to tell when your posting in a public or private forum now... if we don't fix that private content will get leaked out to the public areas.
  • I miss the private associtates forum already!

@Edward - Even better... they should add a timezone option to our account settings so it can be in your current timezone.

Featured Blogs are currently sorted so that the newest one is at the bottom and the oldest one is at the top, would probably be better the opposite.

Like the new site.

One thing stuck out to me.
I can't tell if I am in a TGE or TGEA public or private forum.
I was going to post to a thread someone asked but wasn't sure which forum I was in.
I can't even figure out how to navigate to one or the other.

It could just be me.
Past my bedtime.:)

Good luck with the site launch, its going to be a nervous time. Layout seems clean in the menu's, so I'll just jump straight into my "issues".

1) The forums page itself. Lots of issues for me here.
  • Most Recent Posts / Mark All As Read. Simply the easiest and most convenient way to view a forum you visit regularly.[/li]
  • It doesn't save your actions, so if I minimise "My Watched List" anytime I return it will be back open hogging up all the screen real estate at the top of the page.[/li]
  • I cannot see any way to customise the page so the forums I read regularly are in view (subscribed to), and the stuff I never look at is hidden away.[/li]
  • When I click on TGEA private forums, it now takes me to a list of threads. What happened to all the old content? Shaders, General etc?[/li]
  • There is no way to tell if you've read a thread at all, this is a basic must have feature for a forum of any kind. Under the old forum the link was coloured if you'd visited the thread, and the icon indicated if there were new posts since you last read it.[/li]

2) I have been stripped of private torque forum access it seems. I own TGEA which I still have access to, but I have TGE 1.42 which no longer gives me access to the forums, which contains a lot of useful information which I had used and felt I had paid for and has now been taken away. Do I have to pay more money just to regain forum access?

3)Search I haven't played with a lot. I entered "shaders" as a search term, opened the page, clicked the first link, clicked back, refreshed and saw it *still* did not mark pages you had visited which has been my major problem with it forever.

4) Minor detail. I was surprised to be taken to a seperate page just to login. I was expecting to be able to login via the banner or have a pop up ala vimeo.

5) Cannot edit your own post :P

6) Please leave in an option to view all posts on the one page. I am capable of using my scroll wheel, I don't want to change pages during a thread when I used to be able to read it all in one page.

On older forum threads that have lots of posts it take several clicks of the pager at the bottom before you get to the actual last page of the thread, it would be nice to have "Last page" link so that you can skip directly to the last page.

I second Vernon's option... i would much rather have one huge long page of posts than having to click thru several pages.

Search by date range in advanced search requires typing something in, but it doesn't give any indication as to what the format is... and typing in the exact style that the posts show EG:Jun 9, 2007 doesn't work either, we need to get a sort by most recent as a lot of posts date back to the stone age :)

OMG this is great! Thank you for making a private forum category for products I have purchased

It would be nice if the "My Watched List" feature for forums topics had something similar to that feature but for Resouces. I.e. a way to add resouces to that you find interesting to some kind of list to make them easier to keep track of.

100 words or LESS is correct :) No more 1 liners (though I did kinda enjoy them in a sick way)

Like Deborah said, pile it on, we got a big meeting in the morning to discuss it all. Thanks for all your feedback, it is critical!!

Honestly, I liked the old site better.

I'm on dialup, and this new site loads a lot slower than the old one.

I can't seem to find any of the old posts, or any post when searching. I keep getting no results, and I've typed in pathfinding every way I can think of.

I'd been using it for quite a while, really gonna miss it.

Yep, I read the first post about search will be available soon. That is, I read it when it displayed finally. Some of the posts are not displaying anything beside them for me.

I will see the name like
