Vista 64-bit support for 1.7.1 or 1.8?

by Lateral Punk · in Torque Game Engine Advanced · 01/07/2009 (9:36 am) · 14 replies

Hi,
does anyone have results of running TGEA 1.7.1 or 1.8 on a Vista 64-bit (AMD/Intel) box? Basically I'm just wondering if it compiles, builds, and runs? Any other feedback is appreciated as well.

While not an answer to your question, It does compile and run under XP 64 bit without a problem.

Yep!

*Compiles
*Builds
*Runs

Im Running Windows Vista Ultimate 64 Bit, and have rebuilt the engine without problems.
Just remember to disable Aero!

I compile, build and run on Vista Ultimate x64 with Aero turned on. I have to leave it on for Lightwave to run properly.

It works, but it has issues with Aero in full-screen.

I just work in windowed mode, but you can make it turn Aero off automatically by checking "disable desktop composition" under the compatibility tab in the properies of a shortcut to your .exe (or on your exe itself)

Also, if the game starts in fullscreen, you can use "Disable Visual Themes" ... it doesn't fix the issue when you go from windowed to fullscreen, but if it starts in fullscreen, it works fine.

I'm using Vista server 2008 on a 64-bit AMD phenome 9850 quad core, 4 gig memory.
cant say I've noticed any problems at all compiling or running, windowed or fullscreen, 1.7.1 or 1.8. its all good

I run Vista 64 with AMD processor and nVidia graphics. TGEa compiles, builds, and runs with no problems. Aero is always on and I have no problems or issues with any other Torque games or applications.

I can actually run TGEA, Houdini, Grome surf the net and download video with no issues:) And I also keep Areo on and have not had but one issue with resizing windows and that is solved by following instructions above until its fixed.

@ Patrick
Vista server 2008 is the 2008 edition of the server platform, as apposed to the desktop platform, its vista 64bit based, runs faster than a desktop, has less "bells and whistles", way more stable than vista desktop. its a server, running as a my desktop.

I just installed it on my Vista Business x64 machine. Dell XPS 435MT. i7 920, 8GB RAM, Radeon 4850 HD 512MB. It runs beautifully and now I'm looking to get started. One thing I noticed was that I had to uninstall any 64 bit python libraries. They gave me no end of trouble with Torque and with CVS. Stick to 32 bit versions of everything needed to run Torque.

@deepscratch,
the name of the product is Windows Server 2008, not Vista Server 2008 :)

I've also had no problems using TGEA 1.7.1 on Vista 64 bit systems btw.
