Torque X Game for Review

by John Kanalakis · in Torque X 2D · 12/23/2008 (5:04 pm) · 3 replies

With my contribution to the next release of Torque X Engine done, I've been able to port one of my TGB games over to Torque X 2D. It's largely a tilemap-based puzzle game for the Xbox 360 based on the old checkers board game. I blog'd about it here last week.

Now, Solicheck is now up for review.... the last step before it can appear in the Xbox LIVE Community catalog. Reviewing just asks you to determine if a game meets its description and does not contain offensive or copyrighted material, not whether or not it's a great or innovative game. If you could take a few minutes to check it out, I'd really appreciate (and will happily return the favor). ;)

I'm planning to carve up this game into some resources or tutorials. Features, such as the Menu System, Timer Bar, and High Score Manager are prtty generic and should work in just about anyone's game. So check them out and see if you like them.

After logging into the Creator's Club website, you can find the game here:
catalog.xna.com/en-US/GameDetails.aspx?catalogEntryId=37d660a4-23ee-4c13-8aa0-0f... (need to login first for the link to work)

With this game out and on it's way, I'm planning to switch over to a multiplayer 3D Shooter game for the Xbox 360. This means tackling some remaining holes in the 3D engine that should make it back into the code, such as: Billboards, Shape LOD, Water Block, Foliage Replicator, Precipitation, and some more common 3D game components. I'm sure these game features will work their way into the engine.

Thank you,

John K.

It is locking up my xbox when I click on the 'High Scores' from the main menu, or if I select 'Return to Main Menu' after completing or failing a level. That's on both 'play game' and 'play trial game' from the 360 launcher. It lets me view the instructions, credits, and play levels until I decide to quit.

One thing you may want to explain better because it was frustrating me: Completing a board doesn't necessarily mean clearing all checkers, it just means getting to a point of no more moves available. I was sitting there staring at the screen trying to figure out how to move in order to line myself up to get all of them. Once I figured that out after doing level 2 a hundred times, I was able to breeze through some of the other levels. Right now I'm getting stuck on Level 10. :)

I also have a TorqueX game that I have in playtest right now, if anyone wants to help me out. GG Blog link

Thanks,
Tom
