Version Control SVN and CVS for Beta 1.8

by Britton LaRoche · in Torque Game Engine Advanced · 12/15/2008 (7:36 pm) · 11 replies

Hey guys, I'm just getting back into game dev and I'd like to check out the latest version of TGEA 1.8 beta from version control.

Back in the day (2004) there was some serious discussion about using SVN for version control. Did that ever happen? I have the old cvs connection info, but is there any new SVN access? If so, how do we connect, and what is the svn url of the TGEA 1.8 repository?

There is not an external repo. You can download the beta from your account, though!

Speaking of sites. I wanted to check out your zencoder site Britton, its not showing up. Is it still up?

Wow, that's a blast from the past. I completely forgot about the old CVS repo... good times... good times...

@edward, I updated the profile to hit the old zencoder site... circa 2003. Lots of broken links there.

@David, Brian... No CVS repository? No SVN? What?

No CVS. No SVN. No Source control access.

Betas are now controlled releases, but every TGEA licensed owner has access when we do push a beta out.

You haven't been around for a while. CVS was dropping in 2005 (or the end of 2004, but I believe 2005). It was too confusing to explain to new developers and maintaining it became a pain in the arse.

I think was '06 when the CVS was dropped. I know it was still active when Mich first joined us, and I remember certain discussions he and I had about the numerous threads about it after it was dropped.

That's what I was thinking, too...until I saw a post from Matt in 2005 noting that CVS was not supported anymore. The server was up for a while after that, though since there were still some people who were actively checking out. I'm not sure when the server itself was decomissioned (or re-commissioned).

Those were indeed good times.

Interesting, I didn't realize that the CVS had started being taken down then. It wasn't until a few months later when I made my return to the Garage and shortly after that I was working with mostly TSE, er TAT, I mean TGEA.

"TAT"... shudder ;)
