Question on fog layers

I have 2 quick questions that are hopefully easily answered.
I am experimenting with the fog layers, and got the 3 different layers to display as I would expect. There are a few issues though that I could use some explanation on:
1. I can't seem to get the fog layer colors to change to anything different. No matter what I put in the [fog layer x color] text box, it still uses the global fog color.
2. In the fog layers, objects "pop" into the scene too close to the camera, instead of appearing farther back where the view distance is. Does something in the fog layer settings override that? With the fog layer turned off, the objects appear where they should.
Any thoughts/help?

Just to clarify: There are two types of fog. One is the global which is more for culling terrain at a distance (and is probably the one you are using). The other more resembles fog. Three layers, first number = distance until fog sets in (to give it the appearance of real fog where the player can see only so many feet in front). Second number is where that layer's fog begins. Third number is where it ends. So, if you wish to have really thick fog in low-lying areas but thinner above you'd use this.--Eric
