Torque Constructor face problems

by Dan Boudreau · in Artist Corner · 11/27/2008 (5:45 pm) · 8 replies

Hello everyone, I've been having some issues with Torque Constructor. I'll post links to the images below. For some reason Constructor isn't exporting a couple of the faces properly, it'll either lose the face completely, or leave out a small portion of it. I'm not having any collision issues, the faces just wont show up. If you guys have any explanation why or know what maybe I could have done wrong when modeling this, I would very much appreciate some feedback.

Keep in mind that it's only happening to a couple of the railing poles.

So this is the full model just so you know what you're looking at.

This is the first pole that is effed up: i34.tinypic.com/hryjhw.jpg
As you can see it's only missing one face.

This is the second pole: i34.tinypic.com/11jspaa.jpg
Same issues as the first.

Poles 3, 4, 5, and 6 are all missing partial faces.

Pole 3: i33.tinypic.com/qri4ae.jpg
Pole 4: i37.tinypic.com/2e2h0nt.jpg
Pole 5: i35.tinypic.com/donwxy.jpg
Pole 6: i35.tinypic.com/14b3jw8.jpg

Poles 1 and 2 are directly across from each other and the same for 3,4 and 5,6.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Did you try Exporting your Brushes as Detail Brushes?

Are you using the latest version of Constructor? tdn.garagegames.com/wiki/Constructor#Constructor_FAQ

@Surge: I'm not too sure what you mean by Detail Brushes. I just export them to DIF. Could you please explain?

@Morrock: Yea, I believe that the 1.0.51 patch is the latest.

I had this issue before with 2 of the faces of surface of the bridge, but just exporting a new one fixed it. and I've re-exported it quite a few times with no success. Not too sure what might be causing this issue.

I've had this happen when using Carve, even in the new version of Constructor.
The missing faces were part of the trash removal when using Carve.

Apparatus suggested to me that I should make each brush and not use carve.

What I do is model what I can in Constructor, then import the map to 3DWS and add the details like your
poles and railing.. And i apply the textures in 3DWS also while I am there.
I export the finished map and open the map again in Constructor.
3DWS has a far better camera and looking at a model from any angle is very easy, hassle free.

I don't use 3DWS entirely since I prefer Constructor for some modeling aspects and for export.

HAHA, I figured it out. I read through some more threads and found that if you go into System>Preferences>Export and uncheck the "Hidden Surface Removal" it eliminates the issue completely. This worked in my case so hopefully for everyone else too. Thanks for the help guys.

A detail brush is a brush that will not be split by things such as HSR or divided for zoning, I'm not the best at explaining it and I'm sure there are a lot of threads that will describe them. But basically they are used so that a DIF isn't cut into hundreds of pieces by tiny details. Since that bridge of yours doesn't look like it could benefit from portalling, it should be all detail brushes.

When in constructor, just select the brushes you would like to be detail brushes, and on the left of the screen (below the tools selections) there are radio buttons "Structural, Detail, Portal, Trigger" etc... just select Detail.

I've followed the update readme and copied the files over, but Constructor refuses to start.
Same issue even after an uninstall/reinstall/update. After a Re-Install, 1.03 works fine, but as soon as I update to 1.07, nothing happens.

Any suggestions?

That is strange. Are you running it as administrator and disabling Aero? That helps on some configurations...though I haven't heard of the older version working on those and the newer one not working. That is strange.
