Weapon Polies

I recently read that 400 polies for a weapon is actually the outdated amount posted a few years ago. How many polies max can a weapon be?

400 would be good starting maximum baseline, but the overall impact will have to be judged/determined on a scene by scene basis. You may find yourself wanting to lower that maximum or possibly even increasing it. It all depends on the hardware nowadays. And with bump mapping of all kinds being the norm nowadays you can actually get away with fewer polys and yet still retain detail.

Actually, it all depends on the amount of polygonal detail that you desire - I've seen weapons that reached 1,000 polys and player models that pushed 10,000 polys. I believe that the .dts format has problems when you go over 10,000 polygons though, I've never been able to get one past 12,000.400 would be good starting maximum baseline, but the overall impact will have to be judged/determined on a scene by scene basis. The weapons from the weapons packs sold here are over 2000 per model.
