TGEA 1.8.0 Beta 1 Release Notes, November 13, 2008

This is a list of the current known issues and errata you may come across as you work with the TGEA 1.8.0 Beta 1 as of Nov. 13th 2008.

Known errata with the Game Examples :

1. (OSX) Atlas Demo has crashes in Debug and will only run in Release after another Torque project has run (unintialized memory bug).
2. (OSX) Underwater view is not rendering properly in demos that contain water.
3. (OSX) Forge demo does not run at all.
4. (OSX) Stronghold and some of the missions have some incorrect ground textures in places.
5. (OSX) There are visual issues with the rain in Content Pack Demo 1.
6. (OSX) T3D - Character select screen has visual issues, missing ground foliage.
7. (OSX) TGE Demo Advanced - Occasionally you will need to click off of the app and then back onto it in order to accurately click on a menu item.
8. (OSX) Shadows are disabled intentionally in demos.
9. (OSX) Brief purple flash or flicker while loading the demos, related to rendering.
10. (OSX) The smoke emitters in the Temple in TGE Demo Advanced disappear at certain camera angles.
11. (OSX) Some normal maps have issues on ATI video cards (render as a flickering white).
12. (OSX) A number of the custom HLSL shaders have yet to be converted to GLSL.
13. (PC) Forge Demo has some visual issues.
14. (PC) T3D Demo - occasionally player weapon becomes transparent.
15. (BOTH) Dynamic lighting has visual artifacts.
16. (BOTH) TGE Demo Advanced with go to a grey screen if idling on the Terrain Engine flyby for a long time.
17. (BOTH) Some Interior debug rendering modes are painfully slow.
18. (BOTH) The text in TGE Demo Advanced is too large and overlaps the menubar at times.

Known errata with the Editors :

1. (OSX) The various editor windows are not resizable.
2. (OSX) None of the terrain or texture editors display any brush or action options.
3. (OSX) Color picker is not working .
4. (OSX) There is no View toolbar.
5. (OSX) There are no pips or ID's for your objects in the 3D viewport.
6. (BOTH) Upon initially starting up the mission editor, the screen is black until you move the camera slightly.
7. (BOTH) The editors (Mission Editor and GUI Editor) are unable to save new files.

Misc. Errata :

1. (OSX) Key command for free camera (alt-c) does not appear to work (you can get into free cam mode in the Mission Editor).
2. (BOTH) Options dialog box displays incorrect lists graphics/sound information.

Control + C on the Mac does toggle the free camera on the Mac (tested in T3D).

I want to add that on Mobile Intel 965 (x3xxx) laptop card I see a lot of visual artifacts (no fog in Walkthru demo and blinking terrain in Atlas demo) under Windows XP, and the performance is very poor (Forge demo was about 7 fps).
I tested the new beta on a Vista laptop with NVidia 8400 mobile chipset and did not see artifacts, and the performance was much better (Forge demo - 19 fps).

I hope Intel 965 chipset will get a bit of attention from GG as it takes about 30-40% of the casual market...
