Question : C++ Programmer need

Hello all,
I'm thinking to join Realm Wars development team as a programmer, as you know to get access to the code I need to license Torque engine.
Before to take that step, I'd like to know how can a C++ programmer help to the project, because my feeling is that there's not need for a "real" programmer as Torque engine takes the most of the hard work.
Am I wrong?

There is plenty of need for "real" programming. Torque does a lot of things but there are also a lot of behaviors we want to alter and extend.
