I am looking for a professional website designer who can build my website. Now I do not have money to pay for the service, however I will pay a monthly percentage of the gross for 2 years (will put that in a legal contract) Its a complex and sophisticated website, so if your an amature that please don't waste either of our time. Please e-mail me at chris_stracc@hotmail.com only serious inquiries only please. thank you

I think its the whole complexity of the web development process that throws them off. They truly feel like they are about to invent the model T, but don't realize that you have to have a factory to build it.
So in simple terms, I equate this type of request to asking an architect to, not just design you a house, but build it as well. And in payment you offer him the left over shingles.
Don't get me wrong Chris, I really do wish you the best in your project, but I'm trying to show you that your approach to the problem at hand, comes across wrong and ill-conceived to the very people you are trying to reach.
Lay it out like a business plan and you may just get what you are asking for.

I can see why people make this mistake when they come into the web dev business. My brother is currently doing the same thing as I write this :)I think its the whole complexity of the web development process that throws them off. Are you looking for a web designer (guy who makes the site pretty) or a web developer (guy who makes the site function to specs)?
These are two very different people, but you can find people who do both. Just figured that should be sorted out.
I may be able to find someone who would be willing to help you on this. I will get in touch with some friends and see what they think. I cannot say if they will go for the % of gross without some numbers to back it up and a provision for if the site makes nothing or under a certain amount, but that is for them to decide.
If you shoot me an email (found in my profile) I can pass that on to some friends and get that ball rolling. Make sure to let me know what technology is planned to be used for the site (php, aspx, jsp, cgi, w/e it is)
Honestly something like this isn't a horrible proposal to someone who has a secure and steady day job and is looking for a side project ... providing some provisions.

I have friends on Wall Street and passed those numbers along. The consensus was that either your definition of "fortune" is sub-par, or your practices were far from ethical. Neither of which I'd be willing to take a job from for 100% discretionary at-risk income.
This is directed at those interested in the opportunity, and not at Chris directly. I would just hate to see someone get burned who didn't see it coming.
Certainly Chris' concept may be very valid. But keep in mind that he is new to the online business domain and may not understand the variables entirely well enough to know if it will be a success or not.
If anyone does take up the job, just make sure you get full disclosure on the business plan and financials along with an agreed percentage either off of gross or net, or somewhere in-between. Don't go into it with him having full discretionary control of the pay.
If you just want the web dev experience and aren't as concerned about the pay, just make sure it's something that you can disclose on a resume and aren't gagged by an NDA. Also keep in mind that MLM was brought up by Chris first; there is a good chance that it's a site you may not want to be professional linked to in the future.

Ok, so an uneducated person (no offense, I have no pedigree either) made a fortune as a stock broker in 6 years... no one should have any questions now as to why the US economy is so screwed up...I have friends on Wall Street and passed those numbers along. Crazy thread. The only way I can possibly see a pro web-designer/developer signing on to this is that in the contract there was also a minimum amount of money he would get at the end of the 2 years. So, basically, something along the lines of "2% of each months income for 2 years, or $10,000 at the end of 2 years; whichever is more". Then I can see a web guy possibly helping you out. This way, he gets a steady income if it's successful, but he also gets the minimum he wants/needs, even if the site tanks.
