Replacing Legacy terrain with Atlas Terrain?

OK, now that I know how to create Atlas terrains, how do I replace the legacy terrain in my level with Atlas terrain?
Please note;
The current terrain I am using is just a flat plain. And that I will be using L3DT professional to build the new Atlas terrain...
Please note;
I've worked on professional game projects where we used XML files to reference the locations of statics, and could just assign or point these XMLs at new levels. This way we didn't have to manually place the statics by hand all over again. Does TGEA have something similar??
One last question, how does collision work with Atlas? I tried to create a quick flat terrain and drive one of my vehicles on it, but there wasn't any collision on the terrain, causing my vehicle to drop out of the world...
Thanks
