Constructor Problems

Have tried constructor on two different systems I have tried it on a vista 64 bit unlimited and a 32 bit XP Home.
I have installed a fresh TorqueConstructor_Win_1_0_3 on both and tried to update with 1_0_42 patch and 1_0_5_1 patch none work at all on both machines.
I have also noticed that TorqueConstructor_Win_1_0_3 work ok on the XP home 32 bit system but on my 64 bit system it dosn't work very well some times it will load and some time it will not.
I have been trying to have a good play with constructor but haven't been able to so learning is very difficult.
I would prefer it if constructor would work on my 64 but machine as its more powerful the, only reason I tried it on the 32 bit machine was to see if the updates would work on that machine.
Can anyone help me with this problems I would realy like to have ago with the TGE 1.5 but I can get constructor to work.

Make sure you disable Aero on Constructor under Vista. It can cause problems with the GL drivers.

Right-click the Constructor icon and select properties.
I cannot remember offhand which tab has it, though since I'm on XP right now. But it us under the properties dialog. You can also set it to compatibility mode for XP.

Aero just takes up more of your system resources, and aesthetically, I don't like it.
Also you can disable a lot frivolous eyecandy by going to Control Panel - System - Performance and disabling things like animated menus. It won't give you a huge performance boost but makes windows, menus, etc open and shut faster.
You know you spend too much time around computers when you complain about 50ms being too long ......

To disable Aero, right click on desktop, left click "open classic properties", and then choose "windows vista basic".Aero just takes up more of your system resources, and aesthetically, I don't like it.

Just decompress the 1.051 patch over your existing directory, with folders intact. It's cumulative. If you have further problems, send me an email, and I'll reply with the link to a full download.

Right click Constructor shortcut --> Properties --> Compatibility tab
Run program in compatibility mode for:
Windows XP (Service pack 2)
Check Disable Visual Themes (this will disable Aero when you run Constructor)
Check Disable Desktop Composition (not sure what this does or if it's necessary, but I have it checked)
Those settings work fine for me, also make sure you have latest video drivers, specially if you're running ATI as their older drivers seem to cause all kinds of problems with Torque products.

Does your video card have good OpenGL drivers that work under Vista? Can you use TGE or TGB at all?
#14
10/28/2008 (2:15 pm)
Yes, please do update your video drivers. The console.log file should be in your constructor folder and should detail where it was that constructor crashed out on you.
#15
So long as you have adequate memory and up to date video drivers you should be having no problems.

Quote:disable Aero when you run ConstructorReally? That's weird. I've yet to have a problem with Torque or Constructor either one under Vista with Aero on. I do start having problems with Vista though as soon as I disable Aero so I always leave it on. Isn't it funny with all of these inconsistencies with Torque, various OS's and user experiences?

@ David: yeah it's pretty crazy. I've only had this laptop for a little over a month (otherwise I wouldn't know the first thing about Vista), I'm sure I haven't discovered all of it's problems yet, but as soon as I disabled Aero I was confused because I thought everyone was recommending turning it off and yet it made things a lot worse for me.

Windows Vista Home Premium
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @2400GHz
4GB Ram, NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT
Aero enabled, no particular compatibility settings...
I hope I've not spoke to early :-/
;-)
I've managed to avoid the 64bit CPUs since I was very scared about all the problem I could meet with a 64 bit system...
