Creating heightmaps

by Chris Sargent · in Torque Game Engine · 10/22/2008 (7:03 pm) · 7 replies

I was just wondering what people are using to create height maps. I'm looking for a decent program that I can use to create my own terrain and them bring it into torque.

I tried using terragen and i like the way it works but am unable to find a decent converter to convert the .raw file to a bmp file.

Thanks!

Try Torque L3DT. Don't have link but you can find it on products page. :)

The Gimp can import .raw data. That's how I used to import the htmaps from Terragen.

Thanks Dean. I have looked at L3DT, and have put it into my budget for next month. Just don't want to wait until then to get some work done :)

SilentMike I have The Gimp never thought to check to see if it could do that.

Thank you both for the information

Gimp can import RAW? Didn't notice that when I checked the open file format list - but I didn't have a RAW image to experiment on!

I can't seem to find any option to get my .raw file into gimp 2

It just opens .raw files for me, I don't have to do anything special to import them. I've installed quite a few plugins for the Gimp so it could have been a plugin that allows it to import raw files.

I believe UFRaw should work for Raw in Gimp:
