Are Indy games profitable?...

Hey All,

Just wondering how profitable your games are. I understand that many of you are probably in it for fun and not profit, but for those of you who are trying to turn a buck, how successful have you been?

Thanks for sharing,

Stef

Any indie game can be popular. It just has to be fun, worth the price, and "get out their". By get out their, I mean don't just only let the GarageGames community know about it. Put a ad out on another website, or on your Myspace/Facebook, or anywhere that serious gamers might be looking, say a cheat games website. Just make some cheats for your indie game and see if you can submit your game to a few cheat code websites. It's all about the marketing.

I used to make mortgage payments with mine at one time. I wouldn't call it hugely profitable - at $55 / hour, I make a heck of a lot more off of my contracting gigs than I ever did off of my own game development efforts.

It also matters what you consider to be a "profit". Technically, if you spent $0 in development, and don't count the time you put into it, a single copy sold at $10 is a profit.
