IGC Session Summaries

by Dan MacDonald · in General Discussion · 11/06/2002 (12:00 am) · 14 replies

I submitted my first resource today which contains a link to a session summary of the great session Justin and Dave of 21-6 Productions gave on "Remote Team Managment" you can find the resource by viewing my profile since I can't figure out how to post a link on these forums (being the total newbie that I am). Let me know what you think. I've got notes on a few more sessions which I will post links to from here as I get them done.

EDIT: here's a direct link www.rainfallstudios.com/Articles/RemoteTeamManagment/summary.html

I'll be putting up summaries for all sessions I attended in the next week or so, once I've dealt with my coverage of the event for MacGamer and some real life issues...
I might also have some of the panels available in audio at some point, once I clean them up, compress them further, etc. (and someone to host them, of course ;)
Normally, most if not all slides should be available in the near future iirc.
I'm still in a weird high energy headspace : IndieCon aftershock, etc. It was such an blast, and an infusion of knowledge, experience and just being around good people. I really look forward to going to many more IndieCons and seing all of you next year.
Oh, and there was snow in Montreal when I got in, and there was more falling this morning.... ;)

Hey thank you Dan.

Those of us who couldn't make ICG really appreciate it (or at the very least, I do). Please keep them coming (as you find the time to post them).

Compiling all the summaries and getting everything together is taking no small amount of work (anyone who "scribed" a session please contact me by e-mail), if you attended IGC please feel free to add your own notes and posts, but GG will be putting up the sessions on the resources section as well as on the IGC site - soon... very soon.

Any server space that could be made available for recourdings is appreciated - many of those who took notes have volunteered to host their session overviews. As with the entire IGC event it is truely a community effort!

Well I managed to get another one done :) Davis if you're out there could you email me if you feel I have mis represented you in any way? I was enjoying this session so much my notes were a little sparse so I had to embellish a little from memory.

With that disclaimer... here's the link.

Hey Dan -
No problem, you pretty much got the essense of it right :-) Good summary

While it doesn't show up in the pic ya took, there's a mini-tape recorder off to the side of me. I recorded the session, and have been slowly transcribing it. (It's realy faint in some areas for some reason - I think the tape has been over used.) However, your summary is probably a better read than tryin' to read the whole thing ;-)

The one part that you DID catch that was iffy was my statement that if you quit while trying to make a project and give up, you are a "Indie Game Developer Wannabe". Ya know, I popped off with that, and wish I could take that one back.

Quiting a project, or shelfing it for later, because it's to resource intensive, etc. is NOT a bad thing actually. Don't be abitual about it though - if you do it more than once, well, then the comment might start applying. As it was, that comment was pretty bad. Oh well - sometimes the mouth runs faster than the brain I suppose ;-)

Oddly enough - I got questioned about stuff after the session, but, no one ever brought up that comment. Go fig ;-)

Transcribing? Wow, you're a better man then I. It seemed like it took forever just to type up the summary and I didn't get close to getting all the good stuff in. Maybe if you get that transcription done we can link to each other or something? Having a transcription of this session would be a very good thing it was an excellent session.

Ha, I really liked that comment; I think it's nice to have someone draw a line in the sand every now and then. :) Personally I agreed with you in how you meant it. Admittedly there is a chance that people could take it the wrong way so I’ll add an editor’s note when I get home from work. ;)

Here's a link to a summary of Jeff Tunnells IGC Keynote Address that I quite enjoyed.

Jay or Jeff, if you have the slides from this presentation i'd be happy to host them and link them to this summary.
