Scripting best approach?

Hello my name is sean brady and i was wondering if i could get some advice from the community regarding scripting. I have the license for torque+torque advanced engine for a while now and i would really like to start making games as quick as possible with it. I am trained as an artist and designer initially but i need to learn every thing i can about torquescript and the use of it. My main question is, what would be the best approach to learn it? I have got both books(GPGT AND 3DGP All in One) and i am still stuck. I just cant get my head around it. I have check around and i am not the only one. I am not dissing them or anything, i am just trying to find an alternative learning method. If there is one.

The method I used to learn programming allowed me to pick up TorqueScript quickly:
You can then try and move on to integrating other coders' resources. Again, aim for something simple. After you feel comfortable with the low level stuff, start working your way up the resource ladder or developing your own modules.
Let me know if you have some questions, as this is a difficult question to answer when it is posed in such a broad manner.

Hey Sean. The classic route, reading through the official documentation (posted at the bottom of this reply) and available books is almost a sure fire way. Granted, some people learn differently. However, when it comes to programming you are going to end up reading a lot and coding a lot.The method I used to learn programming allowed me to pick up TorqueScript quickly:
Quote:Read. Read Code. CodeStart by reading through the books, through the documentation, and through the forums. Next, read the code that is available to you in the free resources, sample games (starter.fps is great), and simple tutorials. Finally, try coding. Start with simple stuff, like basic syntax practice creating for loops, print outs, etc.
You can then try and move on to integrating other coders' resources. Again, aim for something simple. After you feel comfortable with the low level stuff, start working your way up the resource ladder or developing your own modules.
Let me know if you have some questions, as this is a difficult question to answer when it is posed in such a broad manner.

If the question is similar to this thread, you can post in here again. Ultimately it's up to you though =)

Scripting is typically discussed in the public forum. If your new questions are specific, such as "How to access client variables in script", create a new thread in the public area.If the question is similar to this thread, you can post in here again. Ultimately it's up to you though =)

If you'd like, we can trade. I'll write your code, you make my art. That's a sweet deal if I may say so myself :)

William i will have to refuse your offer, i am sorry for the misdirection with my answer it just i think it would more beneficial for me to learn myself. It is mainly because i have enough projects to work on (3d art) and have very little time to spare. I hope you understand. Cheers. Sean
