Althought I don't have time to explain everything but I am thinking of doing a Space MMORPG based in the star trek universe. Now I know all about the copywrites laws and such with paramount, etc. So id on't need a electure :D Anyways basically it is just like startrek you can be a starfleet officer,a civilian,Federation Council Member,Freelancer etc. Its very hard to explain and would take me more time to type it all then I have. Would torque be best for a MMORPG or what engine would be better? Is this Possible?

Since you get the whole sdk, you can do what you want with it.

I am really surprised that so many indies are willing to make MMRPG. For lots of them it is even the first project.

I'd say - hide and wait until you see from which side the wind blows. In the next couple of years we will have rich harvest of MMRPGs. 90 percent of them will bancrupt in the first months. I say, leave this oversaturated market to MS, Sony and other big sharks as they have marketig machines one can not match.

From what I have heard, it take massive amopunt of money just to support the whole damn thing.

however, I think that massive coop games are the way to go. multiplayer has great future and such projects can be pulled off by indies (Dogs of Prey being as textbook example).

Also, I think there is a niche in Europe for local MMRPGs. As online roleplaying is not only for killing stuff but also about interaction between players, language barriers are stopping global prjects becoming from becoming truly global.

Germany, France - huge markets which deserve online games exclusively for domestic audience. Also, getting media coverage could be much easier.

Do you think if we made our games with different language versions we would gain alot more sales in other countrys? because not all games are in say the Arabic languages. It'll be one of few games. Well kinda.

Check out actionrpg.com which is creating a framework for MMOGs using Torque - headed up by Joshua Ritter.

I say that online game *styled* under certain location could make more buzz and interest (in local level) than just another MMRPG (even if its great).

Nordic and Arabian culture are two different entities and what lies deep in mind of arab players could seem mildly exotic to nordic players.

Also, the language players are interacting with plays huge role. Right now everyone is more or less forced to speak English if only he/she is not interacting exclusively within the clan consisting only from "national comrades".

And after all, two french players have more common topics than french and american player. Maybe I'm not right, maybe such "segregation" isnt appealing, but there still is quite a huge audience which doesnt speak English.

Just my two cents.
