Help Wanted Ads should allow comments

Am I the only one who thinks that Help Wanted Ads should allow comments? Every time I see an ad that says 'MMORPG, 2 year project, join us for no pay!' I feel a very strong desire to make a comment.

Just leave them alone... why does it bother you? Go make your game and don't waste time on things like this!

allowing comments would mean someone would have a full day job playing moderator to delete the comments from childish people. We don't want it to turn in to a "who can flame best" contest ala gamedev.net help wanted forums. Just leave them alone... why does it bother you? Go make your game and don't waste time on things like this!

I think their needs to be some moderation on the current job listings.. some of them are pretty far fetched, off the wall and down right side splitting insanely comical.-Ron

comments are a bad idea, if the main reason is to write negative comments.

I'm not saying any project is more important than any other project, just that when people go lookin' through 'em, they are either lookin' for a cool hobby project to work on, or, they are looking for paying work. Right now, the whole system gets pretty overloaded it seems. Could just be me though - I don't use it much, except a couple o' times to find people to fill positions.

I'd like to see Help Wanted adds get a little more information and separation in 'em anyway. IE, when someone files a help wanted add, if they are lookin' for help on a freebie basis, it gets filed in one place. For pay contractor work, in cash? Someplace else. % of project? Yet another spot.I'm not saying any project is more important than any other project, just that when people go lookin' through 'em, they are either lookin' for a cool hobby project to work on, or, they are looking for paying work. Then have GG post it prominantely on the site.
It'd be cool if anyone could design one, but it'd be cool if everyone could build their own space shuttle too. :)

Maybe someone should just write a good article thuroughly and clearly explaining the difficulties of making an MMORPG.Then have GG post it prominantely on the site.

Well negative comments should be allowed. If somebody stiffs you then others need to know.

The first two messages in this post are of the "I want to tell someone how stupid their post is" types, which do no one any good.
Spend more time being constructive than destructive.
Comments to post negative mean spirited comments about someones apparent lack of insight is just a bad idea.

someone stiffing you and just making mean spirited comments because someone posts what you think is a stupid job offering are two different things.Quote:David Player

Its as simple as this "A person who goes out of his way to actively put down and talk negatively about other people pretty much has his or her self esteem tacked onto the bottom of there own shoes". Or pretty much they don't like themselves and need to put down others in the hope that they will feel better (it don't work).
And the opposite is true "people who go out of there way to uplift and make positive comments have very high self esteem".
I think the idea of writing articles on the challenges and massive workload involved in a large game project such as MMORPG is a positive step in the right direction.
I would advise that negative attacks and school yard bully (you have a nerdy glasses lets get him) mentality should be left out of a indie game focused site. What do you think John Carmack patrols this site here with all the other "cough " pro's of the industry?
I think one of the main reasons behind the release of the torque engine is for little indie people/groups who want to have a go at game dev get to play with some really fantastic AAA tools.
Just I personally feel a lot of people lack realistic goal setting and planning. Something articles could help with perhaps.

Are you aware that there's more to being a 'pro' than money and experience? Try acting like a professional, or if you don't know what that is, try acting like an adult.
Around here we don't care what someone looks like, we care about ignorance, stupidity, and in some cases lack of personality. We can help you with your ignorance, the rest is another matter.
Anthony was right on with his comment. Indies seem to have a hard enough time making a good looking simple game, without taking on the largest challenge known to game programming. Normal games often take 18 months to build, and MMORPGs often take half that much time just to play balance. Perhaps you'll realize when you start working on a game. Maybe you could send out another round of SPAM to everyone here when you get that far?
Seriously though there are some shady characters lurking about the community, would you rather be warned about them? Perhaps you think we should all be accepting of liars and thieves? We need to protect ourselves, and if we are really a community then we need to protect each other.
So, I propose an open system of comments and communication. Open communication dispels ignorance, improves quality, and protects us all. It also helps us determine who we want to work with.

It's better to keep comments turned off entirely than suffer the inevitable baseless flaming and trolling.
Besides, there are two sides to every story. I don't think anyone on this site has call to be 'warning' anyone else about a job posting. If a prospective applicant doesn't do a little due dilligence on an opening and gets burned, they have to share the blame.

Frankly I wouldn't have even considered applying for that job posting, since it was poorly written. The detractors had good points, and I would hope that in the future the poster would bother to mention things like company information (size, time in operation), pay scale, and other information that would distinguish a job post from a newbie 'come work on my MMORPG game for free' post.
They managed to get information out of the poster. She works for a recruiting firm and doesn't represent the personality of the company, and will certainly take at least $10k off your first years' salary. They discussed pay scale, and mentioned another thread that she had posted.
Frankly, that sort of thread is almost exactly what I would hope for. We may have an irreconcilable difference of opinion on this matter.

If you want more information you can just ask it. Click aply and type your questions in the field. So.. you CAN post comments, what you can't do is flame someone in public.

That post on gamedev.net is EXACTLY what I don't want to see, kids and wanna be game developers that are no where near qualified for jobs flaming everyone at the first possible chance.
There is more than one person that just posts hateful inflametory remarks to the dev snapshot on a regular basis like clockwork.
The signal to noise ratio of people that are more interested in starting flame wars and posting ignorant off topic non-sense is getting worse with every X number of members GG gets.
If anything, there should be a "rating" system for comments of any sort and to go along with it a filter system that supports ignoring / banning anyone within some hueristic.
In general people abuse anything at every opportunity.
If you want more information ask for it in private plain and simple.
