I run ubuntu, ive been working with torque off and on for a years, ive gotten most of the versions to compile link and run without issue on whatever distro (ubuntu now, gentoo in the past) im using
the modernization kit resource works with it with a few minor changes ive mentioned on the modernization kit thread
the Cg resource with water and DRL ive gotten working in the past with a few changes ive made on that thread
ive gotten the SDL joystick thing working
and ofcourse the lighting kit (thats built in now) works fine
incase anyone wondered..
ive also gotten sound working with oss alsa and pulse audio, i forget exactly how... i had to change some setting or environment variable somewhere.. i found out how from figuring out how to get sound working on zsnes i think

TGB is no better (though it is nice to see 1.5.2 work the way it does). One can only hope a future version of TGE will do the same, but I have my doubts.
