TGB - Game running ultra slow.

by Craig Hansen · in General Discussion · 07/26/2008 (7:31 pm) · 4 replies

I just downloaded the demo and I'm slowly working my way through the tutorials and I've run across a problem...

When I hit the play button and build the game... it runs EXTREMELY slow... the fish tails are moving at like 1 frame every 2 or 3 seconds. Is this a common issue? Common fixes?

What gets me... the fish animates perfectly in TGB... just not in the exported/built game.

Freaking website won't let me search until I buy the product, but... I'd like to know the product will work before I buy it.

Machine:
Pentium 4 HT 3.0ghz
512mb Ram
(OLD)GeForce 4 MX440

I know the graphics card is slow and old... but I can't imagine it murdering 1 swimming fish on a 640x480 game... especially since it works beautifully within TGB.

Any ideas? TIA!

I need to rephrase...

When I'm looking at the game in the editor... everything runs fine, fish animates lovely and all... But when I press the play button at the top and the game opens up in its own window... this is when it runs extremely slow.

Sorry.

I've never had that happen, unless I had say, a self-repeating schedule that happens every 5ms or something like that...

I have this same problem when running on my computer with the Intel integrated video chip. The 845G, I think it is. It is due to those background images. If you remove the backgrounds, the game runs fine. I have not found a solution to this problem. Someone in another thread pointed me to drivers, but I have what I think are the most recent drivers and it hasn't helped.

Do you happen to be using an integrated Intel chip?

No, I'm using an old Geforce 4 MX... but... you hit the nail on the head. That is the exact problem I'm having...

If I'm only using one sprite (like in the Behavior Mini Demo) it runs perfectly, but when I add those backgrounds in the fish demo... it slows to a crawl. Makes me feel better that the problem might just be my cheapo graphics card, but makes me sad that I have to buy a new one to use TGB, even for ultra simple stuff.

I think my MB does have an integrated Intel chip, I wonder if that can effect it even when it's not in use... hmm.

I'll see if updated drivers will fix the problem, that's probably something I should of tried first.

Thanx! At least I'm not alone...
