Wierd blender TGE issue

I have a really odd issue exporting Blender into Torque. I have a Makehuman shape. When I export it without any of the textures it's fine. The moment I add textures to the body, even if it's just a black screen, I get the vertex index limit exceeded. I use decimate and it works fine again, with no texture, but when I add the texure again I get the same error. I've tried this on several makehuman shapes. I import the obj, decimate, then play with it. All works fine until I add textures. Can adding textures affect the vertex limit? Any ideas?

WOW!!! That worked! Thanks, I was going crazy trying to figure that out. I had the vertexes down to 8900 and couldn't figure out why a texture would give me that error.
