Heightmaps, lightmaps, opacity maps... HELP ME

Ok, I need help. I don't understand most of this stuff that I am doing with terrain.

I looked in TDN about making terrain using Terragen, and I think I understand a little bit.

I made a basic heightmap as a .raw file:

And I have my ground texture:

I have no idea how to make lightmaps, opacity maps, or detail textures.

And even if I make them, I have no idea how to put them together.

Can anyone point me to the right direction?

I found out what a detail texture is now, but how would I apply it?

Woops, I made an accident on the wrong ground texture. Here is the new one:

I found out where Terragen makes a lightmap, but it only exports to .atm (weird).

Does anyone know how to get the other kind of maps?
