To be honest, it looks to me like FPS Creator is just a platform for its creators to sell content packs. That's just my first impression from looking over their web site for a few minutes. I could be wrong, but there is no demo available to download and try. It could very well be a great product.

Perhaps someone who's had experience with it can chime in...

I thought it looked great when it first came out ... and then I bought it.

I was very disappointed with it and have only used it once or twice (for a total time of 2 - 4 hrs). I tried to give it a chance, but I could not make the game I wanted with it.

I found that it was great for drag and drop level creation and item/AI placement. I even liked the way it did the entities. Overall the editors were awesome.

If you don't want to program or are not good at programming, then it's a nice little program. I found that I could not get the customization of the game that I wanted. Also the multi-player was not what it should be.

Although TGE/TGEA are harder to use, they give better results IMHO.

It looks like they have a trial version of Fps Creator. Check it out and see if it fits your wants/needs.

In my case it did not.

I hope this helps.

*Edit

Never mind about the demo ... it looks to be some BS complete the offers and get fps creator thing. It might be legit, but I hate those things.

I have fps creator. It got kinda boring for me. It mostly using content packs, unless you make other models.

It was fun for a while, but then got really boring. You really cant expand on it. That is my opinion. :)

I do not have Fps Creator 10 so I cant really say anything about that newerone. So I never used it.
So I dont know if anything changed.

FPS Creator is a rather solid engine for two key groups (though there are many that fall in-between). The first is for artists or developers that want to prototype certain types of FPS's either using pre-made content or through creating their own. The interface is easy to manipulate and organize your assets and levels and game logic. You create your levels in a way similar to tile-based 2D tools, though you are painting with 3D brushes, and for the most part it is easy to snap together some fun levels. If you are not a DB programmer, this is were the limitations start to show themselves, though you can be creating and work around some of them.

The second group that could benefit from FPS Creator (and my experience is with 9, not 10) are DB Pro programmers who receive the complete engine source. DBPro users can expand the interface and interactions, adding in DarkPhysics, DarkAI, etc as they need to create the type of FPS that they want. Of course, it takes some DB programming chops to accomplish and optimize and test.

I've used FPS Creator quite frequently and I have to tell you its level of performance, both graphically and gameplay-wise, is of an overall mediocre quality. The environmental visuals and weapon models can get to a pretty impressive level, but almost everything else is pretty low-end. The weapons don't pack much punch, the character animation and overall environmental animation is extremely stilted. Additionally, all of your content would come in the form of those ridiculously expensive content packs, which don't really have a lot of meat on them, trust me. That means that all of the content used in your game has probably been used to death by someone else already, so it's a little tough to create a unique title. Making your own content for use in the engine is out of the question unless you can model, The scripting works decently, though the system's nothing to jump up down about.

You know that saying, you get what you pay for? Well that works doubly so in this case. Fork out the extra green and go with TGE if you want something flexible and powerful at the same time. FPS Creator X10 is actually pretty decent, but it's Vista only. Like David said, FPSC is great for DarkBASIC or DBPro programmers since it's the same language, but if you're looking for the right combination of flexibility and power, I would really go with TGE. The GG staff is also a lot easier to deal with and get help from than the GameCreators guys.
