Downgrade TGEA to TGE
by Feng Ning · in Torque Game Engine · 06/23/2008 (5:44 pm) · 21 replies
I am a user of TGEA INDIE, but now I want to turn to the TGE INDIE because there is no available AFX & MMO Kit for the LATEST TGEA. I have to use these two tools in my project, but I could not purchase them without TGE INDIE license.
Is it possible to downgrade my license to TGE INDIE and return the price difference back? Or do not return, just turn them to something like credit that I can buy other stuffs in the future, it's even better.
Thanks!

Search is your friend :)
Edit: The fact is that with development of TGEA taking place independent of resources or the MMO Kit, you're likely to have to port things over to your specific version of TGEA. Even between TGEA versions, you'll need to port things over due to changes.

TGEA/TGB/TX do not show up under the profile if that is the only licenses you have bought.

Really? I was under the impression that TGEA and TGE cause the Torque Owner note to appear in profiles. At least in the past that was how it was. :P

@Ted
I know MMO Kit for TGEA is great, but I just thought TEG is more suitable for my current project. Furthermore, if I choose the TGEA, I have to learn new things about TGEA, do the TGEA 1.7 port for AFX and MMO Kit, or wait for the latest AFX and MMO Kit. I don't think I have time to do those before the deadline :(
@Nathan
Sure I'm a real TGEA user :)
I think there should be an option. After all, if I purchase TGE first, and upgrade to TGEA later (If necessary), it costs the same amount of money. But before I upgrade, I can purchase any TGE required product freely. You see, that's the difference between purchasing TGEA directly and upgrading later.
If I have to purchase TGE, do you know how I can get a discount? I already contacted the product support team but did not get any reply.

Never saw anything from you on e-mail. TGE should be available to you now so you don't have to go through the refund/rebuy process.

I am the customer of TGB, TGE, TGEA, RTS, TGB Adventure Pack and some other stuff. But I never had a coupons on new products. Maybe, because I am indie, not a commercial customer. ;)

From what I understand, the AFX for TGEA1.7.X is mostly done, just a few minor bug fixes, and it should be out soon.

The coupons are mostly for our (extremely scattered) newsletter posts. We used to offer things like Mojo Audio packs at a reduced price or ThinkTanks, etc. We haven't sent one out in a long time, though.

@David
I contacted the product team using the Support | Product Support, seems it's only for bug reporting.

I haven't seen anything with your e-mail come through there either in the inbox or spam filters. Strange. But I'm glad that the prob is solved!

So what was the end result here? I am in a similar situation (owning TGEA and wanting TGE for a starter kit). One can buy TGE 1.5 for $150 and then upgrade to TGEA for an additional $145. Both packages for $295. If one was to work backwards, they would pay $295 for TGEA and then $150 for TGE. Then result is the same except one costs $445 and the other $295. Where's the logic, or the love?

You should be good to go.

Is that going to be a standard procedure or just on request, i know a few folks that have TGEa but not TGE? might be a good "reward" for TGEa only folks considering the upcoming announcment of the price hike.

I usually do it on request since a lot of teams using TGEA do not care about TGE access.

Edit: And it says Torque Owner, but no discount when trying to upgrade.

I was having problems, not seeing a discount when trying to upgrade. Saw your post about not seeing torque owner under his name, so I thought I would post and see what mine said.Edit: And it says Torque Owner, but no discount when trying to upgrade.

there is a discount just add tgea in your cart and it will update automatically with the discount that is if you own tge already.

I was reading this, and have been just talking about this, but from TGE to TGB :)
My idea is the smae, that you can buy TGB $100 and then upgrade to TGE for $50 (so you will have payed $150 which is the price of TGE), so would i be able to organise to get TGB like Feng was able to get TGEA?
From Max
PS. Your help in this matter is much appreciated, as I am noticing a move from 3D games to 2D games for casual gamers (my companies target audience)

that's not going to work 3d stays with 3d 2d stays with 2d. what you do is buy tge for $50 more then buy tgea for $150 on top of that. if you want 2d then you have to buy tgb for $100 more without any discounts. how much you spend on all the engines don't apply to a discount off every engine.
