Where is the exporter located?

So, where is the actual exporter? I installed the HoudiniHD but I don't see any usable export option. FBX is greyed out and I see no sign of a DTS exporter or options. Is there something else I need to install. I couldn't find much reference to it on SideFX website and I didn't see an actual exporter listed in my account or on the GG site anywhere either. It's late and I'm tired so I might just be overlooking it. Thanks for any help in advance.

The DTS Exporter is only on the Apprentice HD version.... See the following: Click Here. If you have Houdini's Apprentice HD version, then I would contact GG.... Carpenter Software

1. Import a model (I imported a fbx model from cinema 4d)
2. Click on the right mouse button in the output window (choose the network view tab not tree view tab) and choose Tool Menu --> All --> Torgue to add a render node
3. Choose a directory/output File under the Export Tab (in the attribute window above the output window)
4. Click on button "Initialize Scene Details from Scene"
5. Click on the right rectangle inside the torgue node. In the upcoming dialog click "Render". Houdini exports the model to dts.
... but the textures are missing.

Houdini-Master-NonCommercial (Expiry date: 15. Jul 2008)
Render-NonCommercial 9.5 (Expiry date: 15. Jul 2008)
Houdini-Apprentice HD 9.5 (Expiry date 01. Jan 2037)
So, I'm not sure if the fbx import is a functionality of the apprentice version. Perhaps this functionality will expire on 15. Jul.
I tried several hours to install houdini (I had many problems with the activation). I had the demo version installed before I bought the apprentice version.
I hope you understand...sorry I'm not an native English speaker.

You can search the Houdini help documents. There is a chapter about the the " Torque render node". But this is not easy to understand. Hope this will help you.

If the FBX Importer is part of Temporary License, I'll think I'll wait until I get some information. All in all, the DTS exporter in any 3D package is a PLUS for GG especially as a multi -platform software.

Select "out" from the combobox and choose the tab "/out". Here open the context menu and choose Toolmenu->All->Torque.

Looks like the fbx import is also part of the Apprentice version:

"Side Effects Software, an industry leader in 3D Animation software is pleased to announce the release of Houdini 9.1, which for the first time will include access to the new FBX importer."
...
"Houdini Apprentice users can Download the new version right away and Houdini Apprentice HD customers will find an updated license ready in the Houdini license server. Houdini Apprentice HD customers have all received free upgrades to the new version due to the recent release of the HD program. "

When you first launch Houdini, you will see the network editor in the lower right. Click on the path bar that says "obj" and from the menu choose "out." Move your cursor down into the network area and press the tab key and then start typing torque. When it shows up select it and the place the node into your scene. That is your exporter. Of course there is more to it that this but at least you know where it is now.
Now in the parameter pane above the network editor, you can find the Torque node's parameters. Click on the ? next to right of the name and the help comes up. In the help there is an "Example Files" tab. click on this and you can open up some Houdini files that show you the exporter in action.

In line with Houdini's node-based workflow, the Torque exporter is implemented as a Render Operator (ROP). Instead of a generic File > Export > torque that would take out the whole scene, you can use the Render Operator to either export the whole scene or pick and choose specific elements. You can also have several different ROPS in a scene exporting different parts. When you first launch Houdini, you will see the network editor in the lower right. Click on the path bar that says "obj" and from the menu choose "out." Move your cursor down into the network area and press the tab key and then start typing torque. I saw the features listed for Houdini's Apprentice HD: Click Here and you are right. It does have a FBX importer which means that I can use Maya. In order to export the FBX format from Maya to Houdini, you have to download the plugin: Click Here.
Thanks
