Self-Illuminated Texture

by Quest Johnny · in Artist Corner · 06/10/2008 (9:56 am) · 4 replies

I'm trying to create a sort of streetlight for my game, and having a lot of trouble making a bright light portion of it. I've hunted for a couple of days for forum posts, but so far nothing helpful:

Some of them say you change the "self-illumination" to 100 (Upper right) but that doesn't work.. Some say you need to change it to "translucent material" and then set self-illumination. I've tried clicking the "self-illumination" material below, and setting that, but nothing brings it up full bright in the engine

Anybody know how to work this?

Here is max with the material set, with the self-illumination on

and here it is in showtool as an example of how it's not fullbright

From your picture in max, it looks like the self illumination spinner is still at 0. The one under the Maps heading is for using a texture to control self illum in max (torque doesn't support this). The amount spinner there is to control how that texture affects things. The one torque cares about is up near the top under basic parameters, has a [checkbox Color spinner] layout. Thats the one to set to 100 to get self illumination in torque.

The second post of yours, the first link still shows that you did NOT check the self-illumination box in the basic parameters. Maybe you did , but did it after you took this screen shot.

But if you DID, and it still did not work, you may want to try to use the color table next to that same self illumination checkbox and set the color all the way to white, which will give you the "brightest" setting.

See if that works.

In the example I made for you here, I did exactly that. The ball is self illuminated; the pole is not.
