Gelato 2.2 has just been released by NVIDIA. Read more here.

It was originally intended for use with its Quadro FX GPU, although a Quadro class GPU is no longer a requirement, as it now also supports GeForce cards. Designed to produce film-quality images [snip..]

Where would this fit into the Torque Game Engine niche?

If you just finished the sentence you snipped in your quote....
Quote:
Gelato software is a GPU-accelerated, final-frame renderer for the creation of high-quality computer-generated images using NVIDIA Quadro graphics cards. Originally developed to render film and broadcast visual effects and animation, Gelato software can be used with 3D software applications that require advanced rendering such as game development, CAD, industrial design, and architecture.

While it is a neat piece of software, it also limits your audience to Quadro users according to the article. But those users would have a good time.

So because they are saying it's suitable for game dev, means it is. Gash. Ever heard of marketing? Sounds to me like you're reading into that quote too much and haven't had any experience with Gelato before, sorry.

It's still an offline renderer which is not suitable to performance-critical applications, yet.
Edit: Suitable is the wrong word. I'm sure it works, but you'll have a real step back in terms of performance for not as much gain in quality.

That's what's pretty cool about it, they removed the Quadro requirement and you can utilize your regular GeForce chipset to render scenes.

Ah, I thought that this version was made for Quadro cards. Must have read it wrong. I've downloaded it but haven't done anything with it. This machine has a Quadro, so I'm hoping to get to at least poking around with it sometime soon.
