Constructor 1.05 for Windows

Constructor 1.05 is released on the TDN Page:

tdn.garagegames.com/wiki/Constructor

Here is what is new:

1. Brush selection is now signifantly faster (problem in notification code)
2. Ability to reset brushes from the brush properties page. This completely rebuilds the brush
and resets the texture information. This can fix junk brushes. Note that brushes that
are way out of whack may not be able to be fixed, and may result in wildly out of control
faces. You will need to delete these, they will cause export errors anyway.
3. Ability to Correctly load all LOD's for a map at one time (File/Open File Set).
4. Some additional minor bugs/changes (did not document - Sorry!).

Of all of these, #2 is probably the most important -- this should fix all known errors on a brush, if it is fixable. I loaded all of the problem maps that people have sent me, and this fixed every single brush, except for one. And this brush was a known bad brush causing export errors (I save the bad maps with export errors so I can test).

It sounds like it's not running the version you think it's running - Did you extract it with folders intact? Is the shortcut that you are running it from pointing to the right place?

You're probably using Vista, it puts the dso's and everything in your user profile instead of the program files dir.
Find and delete those files in your profile, and I think you'll be ok.

I'm using XP Pro. The mystery deepens. I deleted main.cs.dso and it's not being created either but 1.0.3 continues to come up. Finally I created a shortcut in the same folder, to Constructor.exe, and it still brings up 1.0.3.

Does the binary for Constructor have a path of some type coded into it?

Here's how I (re) installed Constructor:

1. downloaded 1.0.3 and installed it in C:/Program Files/Torque/Constructor

2. downloaded the 1.0.51 patch zip file.

3. unzipped the file into C:/Program Files/Torque/Constructor specifying that any existing files should be replaced.

Help me Obi Wan, you're my only hope!

Thanks,

Robert

I note that the date on the Constructor.exe file in the patch zip file is 5/31/08, the same as the 1.0.3 version.

I've also scanned my C: looking for other Constructor.exes and aside from the one in the zip file for 1.01, and two in WIndows Prefetch with numerical suffixes (which I think are unrelated to Torque) there are none.

Help me Obi Wan, you're my only hope!

Thanks,

Ok, finally, got the patch "successfully" installed. At least the correct version number is showing. What was the solution you ask? Well I've been using StuffIt to install the patch files. Today I decided to try WinZip instead. Despite the fact that both asked me if I wanted to overwrite with the new files, StuffIt must have done something different. Using WinZip to install the patch seeminly worked.

Sadly, now that we have it installed, we're still crashing the Constructor when we try to export our model as .map files :(. Any pointers on that would be most appreciated.

Robert - Send me the csx file (click on my name to get my email), and I'll see if I can figure it out.

Hey guys im using constructor on Mac and am having problems exporting my maps.

I'm using TGE 1.4 demo because I don't have money to buy and indie license yet, and I also want to know that it's worth it, since I'm already am having problems doing simple things that should be working.

I'm exporting using the 'export as tga legacy' option and some .difs are working fine. Sometimes tho, for no apparent reason, there is no collision in the buildings whatsoever. I just run right through them in the demo. Sometimes I just export a few more times without changing anything and it fixes all of the collisions, or sometimes just a few of them.

I've looked through every tutorial on exporting torque and collisions and brush types and stuff and i can't find out what I'm doing wrong.

I love GG's whole take on gaming, and totally love that they actually give some mac support, but I'm really discouraged to spend time to work on making a very well built .dif for my test game if I'm just gonna fall through the walls anyways.

I'm posting this on this thread because its about the update, which I thought might fix this problem. But I can't find anywhere about the mac version. If this is supposed to work for mac, its not working for mine, cuz now my version on constructor wont even open and im just gonna wipe it n reinstall last mac version. If the mac version isnt gonna ever come out, ( like TGEA ) then I would appreciate any helps on what I am doing wrong on my difs.

Did you update your Constructor version for the Mac? The newest version doesn't work on all Macs, but it works on a lot of them. It's solved most of the collision issues on brushes.

Where is the latest version for the mac? I couldn't find it, this download is where i looked and this messed up my version of constructor and I had to clean re-install 1.03

is there a newer mac version than that? and where?

Mark - The latest mac build is a test only build. It works for most people, but some people get a crash. It's something to do with the way I built it (I recreated the project files). Until I can free up some time, this is the only update for the mac:

Please note that I create these updates out of the kindness of my heart. I do not work for GG, nor do I get any monetary gain from doing this.
