Terrain Textures (NOOB ALERT)

Ok, well I have TGE 1.5.2, I know how to do most of the stuff I need to make terrain with (terraformer, terrain paint, etc.).

I have this one problem though, I don't seem to be good at making realistic terrains. And I was wondering, how do most people do it? I have Photoshop CS3, and I've been trying to make some... But they all come out horrible! I was just wondering if there were any tutorials on this.

I would start off by taking pictures of some different grass and dirt types in your area and reading up on some tutorials for creating seamless textures in photoshop. There are literally hundreds of tutorials on the subject. The best realistic terrain textures come from stock photo's and aren't created solely in photoshop.

Ok, I'll try that.

Ok, I mastered the seamless textures, and I created what looks to be a good terrain, but whenever I try to apply it, it looks like:

The image is 256x256 pixels, I don't know what's wrong with it...

Oops, I got it... Apparently it had to be .jpg, not .png
