Make sure that the screen resolution you are setting it to is supported by your video card, and that you have enough video ram and physical ram on your computer.
Try increasing the video resolution with out going into full screen mode.
If your still having problems after trying all of this, start up with a minimum amout of extentions. You can do this with the extention manager in the controll panels.
If you continue having problems post your system settings, ie. make and model, video card, ram and so on.
