Boot Camp 2.1 Update (warning)

by Rubes · in Torque Game Engine · 04/25/2008 (10:44 pm) · 4 replies

For those of you running Windows on your Intel Mac using Boot Camp...

Apple just released an update to Boot Camp (2.1), which also installs new ATI drivers. I haven't been very impressed with Apple's ATI drivers in the past, and this one didn't disappoint either. After the update, running TGE using OpenGL causes major graphical glitches.

Switching to D3D removes the glitches, but obviously it's a pain to have to deal with this issue.

Just wondering if anyone else has seen this with TGE and an updated Boot Camp.

No, and I'm not going to update until it is fixed... ;-)

Don't blame Apple for crappy video drivers, that's a problem from ATI.

I can never be sure who's responsible for the drivers, Apple or ATI. I assumed Apple since they distribute the drivers with their software updates.

I did download the previous version of the boot camp drivers from the ATI web site and reinstalled those, so everything's back to working again.

Its ATI's fault. Apple doesn't make the drivers, so don't try and give them a bad name for something they didn't do.

Perhaps so, although the ATI drivers for OS X have had problems since Leopard came out. I would say Apple has at least a small measure of responsibility for that, although I don't disagree with you.
