Cross Platform Builds

by Richard Ashwell · in Torque Game Builder · 04/19/2008 (8:30 pm) · 9 replies

I am new to TGB running 1.7.2 I think. I might be missing something on cross building, I went through 1 tutorial Asteroid game or whatever, got everything running, it builds and runs on OS X which is my primary environment, it also builds for Windows but while it sets up everything for windows I think, it doesn't seem to create a executable for windows. Does the windows side of TGB build all the way to executable or does it require a separate compile?

From what I have heard, the cross platform build feature was meant to be removed because it doesn't work. If you want to use the game on a Mac [PC] you must run the build command on a Mac [PC].

Well then does anyone know if the license I just paid for covers installing both on my mac and my pc? Or do I have to buy two licenses?

You may install it on two machines provided you are the only user (as far as I am aware).

Thanks Phillip, I am hoping that is the case, but reading the EULA for Indie it doesn't seem to explicitly state that, I'll reread, it later. Thanks again for your feedback.

Yes. You can install it on as many machines as you like as long as you are the only one using it. It is tied to you, not the machine.

I'm on OS X and create my Windows builds from within OS X, and it works perfectly for me. Using 1.7.2.

Vern, yeah I can do the build for Windows from OS X, but it doesn't create an executable?

I don't get any Windows executables either (1.7.4)

Is this still broken or is there a work around? I don't have a Windows machine to do a build from. Only Windows user willing to test my game...

The work-arounds are:
1) getting a Windows machine
2) replace the game.app with the Windows game.exe before distributing
