DTS Exporter And 3d Studio Max 4.x?

Hi all,

I am trying to get a head start on using the V12 engine, so I downloaded the Tribes 2 tools posted on TribalWar.com (and homed on www.doppleganger.com).

I tried using the DTS exporter plugin (Tribes 2 tools) with 3d studio max 4.x running under Windows 98. It does't work. I tried both the new and the old plugin. Here is what I do, and here is the error message:

Customize->Plug In Manager->Load Plug-In

and then pointed to the directory where my Tribes 2 exporter is...

c:\t2sdk\NewestExporter\dtsexport.dle

I get the error message:

DLL failed to initialize.


Is there a plug-in that works with 3d Studio Max 4.x? Or am I SOL until Garage Games writes a new exporter?

It's for MAX 3.1. Rick is looking into MAX 4 support last I heard.

The tools available from Tribal War are leaked and generally funky. The official word from Dynamix is to wait until they do a real release of them for use modding Tribes2. As a MaxR4 user myself, I have higher hopes for GG releasing an R4 plug-in than Dynamix doing so.

hehe from my experience with max4 your prolly better off with max3.1 untill they fix those hundred odd crash bugs.

It is impossible to work out how to implement mount points in the .CFG file anyway.. So it's not much use even if it does work - no DOCs!..

Goto www.tribes2centraldownload.com all the released T2 tools are there. Including the export tool (which states for 3DMax 2.5 in the description)

Is there any timeline on a release of the exporter for max 4? I just bought max & got 4.1. I get the 'cannot load' error.

Or if there is no GG plan for the tool anytime soon, does anyone have any pointers to how I can change the tool to work? I know nothing about max plugins.

Just to follow up Andrew's question regarding how to make the R3.1 DTS Max exporter work for the R4.x versions:

You need to have access to the source code that was used to build the plugin file (in this case the DLE). You also need a copy of MS Visual C++ v6 and a copy of the latest MS Libraries to compile with. After this is done you need to double check to ensure that there were no SDK changes the version of Max that you are using (make the changes if there were) and then recompile.

Yes the exporter works fine for alot of people (provided that you use the correct one for your version of 3DS Max), you can download a couple of the DLE file through a link with the DTS Exporter Documentation

Also, people have converted the exporter for both Milkshape and Lightwave as well if you have those 3D applications.

I have 3D Studio Max 2008. Is there an exporter I could use or must I wait?
