FPS Wii Game Idea

I am not the biggest Wii Fan around, I find the FPS controls for most of the Wii game sI have played to be sketchy and hard to use. But the control setup does lend itself to my most recent idea. A FPS Samurai game, using the Wiimote's D-Pad to control forward, backward, and left to right strafe movements, instead of the joystick on the Wiichuck. You would use the Wiichuck's joystick to control up down, left to right camra control, instead of having to keep the Wiimote pointed at the screen, and using it to look around. The game is played mostly using a katana, the Wiimote would be used to swing the blade, and block enemy attacks, but not by pointing the Wiimote at the screen, and positioning the blade so it blocks the attack. Instead, you would swing the Wiimote at the incoming attack to deflect it away, and swing it again to strike at an enemy. I would hope this gives you more control over you attacks, instead of needing to rely on the pointing sensor, which seems to be unreliable on my Wii (It just might be that I suck, but my ego keeps telling me it has to be the Wii's fault). This is just the basic setup of the game, was curious if the control setup sounded like it would be plausible.

Good point. My main issue is using the Wiimote to turn and look, having to point off screen to get it to turn in that direction prevents you form being able to attack and turn, like you could in a game like Halo. The dual joysticks are very useful for that. Metriod Prime Corruption had fast paced combat, but I always found myself spending too much time just trying to turn in the right direction to shoot them. Fast moving things are hard to track with the Wiimote, at least, that is my problem with it. I could be in the minority, for all I know.

By making a game where you have to hold your hand forward on the wiimote all the time, the center of gravity of the wiimote would be in the wrong place compared to your hand to usefully swing it. Plus you'd lose convenient access to the +, -, 1, 2 buttons unless your thumb is double jointed and disturbingly long. In which case you should be a porn star instead of a game developer :-D
Deflecting the attack by changing the position of the wiimote is kinda how No More Heroes works, except No More Heroes is pretty much split into high/low attacks. Perhaps it'd work to have you swing to deflect and swing to attack, I dunno.
At least, that's how it seems to me

PS Did you try Metroid Corruption yet?
$DEITY wants you to use the wiimote for FPS input instead of keyboard and mouse.
