Doom III on Xbox would rock!!! Is UT2003 going to XBOX?

I know he was aiming for minimum specs round about the Xbox, and it would suprise me if there wasn't. But I don't think theres been anything official yet?

Nope the Xbox version of UT2003 is Unreal Championship... similar but not the same game.I know he was aiming for minimum specs round about the Xbox, and it would suprise me if there wasn't. But I don't think theres been anything official yet?

With Halo, Halo2, Doom III, Project Ego (which has been renamed), and a few others the XBox is quickly becoming a must have console.

I read it in Electronic Gaming Monthly. I just got my issue yesterday. With Halo, Halo2, Doom III, Project Ego (which has been renamed), and a few others the XBox is quickly becoming a must have console.

Don't be too shocked guys. XBOX is a PC is a XBOX. Whatever is a hit and is on PC will be on XBOX and vice versa. The water is also wet, the sky is also blue, and the PS2 is also a better console. ALL facts. (C:

It's actually big news because nobody has pushed the XBox as far as Doom will. It usually takes a year before any given console gets really pushed by games. I'm just glad to see the Box get flexed. Look at it like this, as badly as many people want to see the XBox die because it isn't cool to like it, Id took notice of what the machine can do. As have many other quality developers.

Actually none of those are facts (well I guess water is wet ;) ). The big thing Microsoft is pushing for is X-Box exclusive titles. So what ever you see on X-Box you probably won't see for PC. Or else they will be for PC like Halo was. Now there are some companies that have enough sway in the game industry that they won't end up like that (Doom for example).
If you are talking about shear power of the machine then the PS2 falls behind both the X-Box and the Gamecube. Which makes it a less likely bet for the most promonent developers to develop for. I've also heard that the PS2 is a pain in the ass to develop for which makes the transition into that market a bit of a challenge for a new company. I think PS2 is in it's first leg of being phased out. There are still some really great titles that will ship for it but I'm finding (for me at least) that there are less and less titles that I'm looking forward to on PS2.
Alc
edit: I also don't think Doom will rock on a console though. It will look pretty for sure but using that X-Box controller almost takes all the enjoyment out of a game.

U and I see eye-to-eye in many things mac (I've read a lot of ur forum threads) And if I recall correctly, you have all consoles just cuz you want to play all games..that's a cool attitude. You are wrong about 1 thing tho. It's the "cool thing" to LIKE XBOX. Its mainstream games are similar in many aspects to Quake, UT, and the like (in terms of look-and-feel). I'll admit the XBOX can do some cool graphics, but their library has always been lacking, and even with Doom3 being added to the library, it only has a few games that are impressive (and I didn't like Halo as much as everyone else). Basically, for each console I've bought, there was usually 1 game that I was very excited for that was exclusive for that machine...XBOX doesn't have one cuz they all go to PC. Its also the "cool thing" to like unix and all that..I'll also admit that I like Microsoft for many things. But I've said it since they started thinking about game consoles, and I stand by my convictions...Microsoft's attitude is good for some things, but bad for games. And IMHO...it's contributing to tainting the purity of the Video Game Industry.

Well, my belief is that one day, all games will be cross-platform (especially when they start going online more and more). Eventually it wont matter which console you have, and you'll be playing the same game online with people that are playing on different consoles. I have a feeling that that is where they are going, but exclusive titles are still a must IMO because we are going to need something to set them all apart. PS2 has the GTA franchise and square (actually..Square recently rebuilt their rapport with Nintendo), GC has all their games (F-Zero, MarioKart, Mario, Metroid, Zelda)...but all games I thought were gonna be "XBOX only" ended up announcing that they were developing for the other consoles, so I've never had a reason to get one. Yeah, PS2 isn't as good as the other two in terms of power, but it is also a year older. Remember what happend to another console when it was the 1-year-old? Does anyone still play the Dreamcast? My point is that despite all of this, PS2 still won Christmas last year even when it was an "inferior machine" 'cuz its library was impressive from the start. And as I've said before, GC is gonna win christmas this year cuz of its exploding library. Mac, man, I'm serious, our opinions are the same most of the time, but "XBOX is QUICKLY becoming a must have..." In the next few months we are going to see almost 10 must have games for GC, and XBOX will still only have a few. All I'm sayin is...XBOX better make some "XBOX only" games...that are good..the power of the machine was never in doubt.

No need to put down PS2 like that... Xbox is cool and so is PS2. Yes, PS2 is less powerful than GC and Xbox, but who cares as long as we get quality games. The thing about hard to develop on PS2 is old story. That is no longer true. If you have PS2, go pickup Linux developer's kit. To tell you the truth... I have all 3 consoles. I have about 20 PS2 games, 7 GC games, and 3 Xbox games... That tells you something about the games that are created for Xbox... doesn't it? Remember this. It's not the hardware that decides who's the king of the consoles... It's the games that decide who is the king. It is clear at this point of time that PS2 is the king of the console. I really don't care who wins... I love them all. Please think little widely. The console war is actually good for all of us. Pricewise.
DoomIII ? Wow!!!! I will just get it on PC. I hate the controls when I play fps on consoles...

This is precisely why Doom III is so good for the Box. Neither of the other two consoles can swing that kind of horsepower. So, perhaps more ambitious developers will create exclusive games that show off their mad game making skills and the XBox's horsepower. This is a win-win situation.

Jeremy - I agree 100% about the library thing. Truth is, I waited a long time to buy my Box because the library did suck. Recently, I've been concerned about the cross platforming spelling the demise of the XBox. Too many games are being released on all 3. But at the same time, it's hard to blame the developers. They are just trying to make $$$ and spreading your market is a great way to do it. This is precisely why Doom III is so good for the Box. Yeah, if XBOX could land some more good development houses, it'd have something. Graphics are definitely better on XBOX (Yakuza Missions screenshots on different consoles are a good example), but games are always gonna be what sells a console and PS2's is the best library at this point (GC is catching up this fall). I was kinda pissed when Shenmue went XBOX...I liked the idea of the "free" genre. But, buck up XBOX fans...some unique hits are prolly gonna hit XBOX soon (something other than the cult classics). Rare reported to going to XBOX recently. I don't have the URL here. That news upset me, but should make some XBOX fans happy. Do I hear a sequel to Conker's BFD going XBOX? Shall we see a "Perfect Dark X" next fall? Maybe...

I agree that the Gamecube will have the best Christmas seasson this year. But I wouldn't say that PS2 blew everyone out last year. They did have highest sales (they also had a lot of great titles coming out last Christmas) but not by a lot. And I would say that they only had the most because X-Box and Gamecube came out at the same time. If there had have only been one that one probably would have beat out the PS2 by a lot.
X-Box has landed quite a few good third party development houses over the last year which is why I would say that the next cult classic is going to be there. Gamecube is relying on there big names right now and I would be interested in seeing what they are planning next. (I'm still diappointed with cell shading Zelda).

Hang on a minute here before everyone starts calling me am X-Box fan boy :). Didn't mean it to sound like I was putting PS2 down because you are pretty close about the games. That's why I said X-Box has the most power and not is the best system. It does have the most power. But there are a lot more factors in judging which system is the best. But like I said in my last post I think PS2 is in the decline. What I mean by that is that it is less likely that the next big game not based on an old franchise is going to come out on PS2. There will still be hit titles like GTA (I'm looking forward to the next one) but unless something new comes out for PS2 by next E3 I doubt that they will stay on top of the best games list for long.I agree that the Gamecube will have the best Christmas seasson this year. THANK YOU GREG! DAMN! I was waiting for someone else to speak up against the cel-shaded Zelda. Just cuz it's the hip new thing, everyone thinks its gonna be cool. I played it at E3, and the gameplay was fine, but I could not get past the graphics. It pisses me off! Did you see the 2000 Spaceworld Demo of Concept Zelda? OMG! It was amazing!!! Then the president decides on this new look cuz its the next new thing and cuz he wants to make zelda more cartoony to "give it to a younger generation". Screw that! It isn't his to give. Zelda belongs to US! Kids got their damn pokemon and crap..zelda belongs to us who played it on NES and SNES! Yeah, that guy is retired now..but the damage has been done. Maybe Nintendo will wise up and release a Zelda that wont suck ass. I'm all for GC releasing franchise games, but you are right, they should come up with something original too. PS2 DID release an original game yo, Kingdom Hearts. Not great, but it's fun. Original Titles are hard though...Most of the big games to date have had predecessors: FF, GTA, MGS, and even ur guys' Doom. Oh, this is an XBOX forum. Erm..."XBOX SUX" (C: Nah, its a good machine, but I'll never get one.

Damn it man, I don't even like the damn X-Box. I respect it's potential but I think the only great game that I've played for it is Halo (which I really enjoyed). Most other games are crap. Hunter was ok... Blood Wake was ok... Guantlet was a rehash of the N64 title and they didn't improve the sound or graphics which was quite disappointing... I am looking forward to Toe Jam and Earl III though. Really liked the old Sega Genesis version.Alc

Its based on RISC processing which needs less clock to do work and uses both a 256 bit bus and rd-ram. But none of it matters if you don't use the features.

Actually PS2 is a different breed of machine thats not been fully exploited. Its based on RISC processing which needs less clock to do work and uses both a 256 bit bus and rd-ram. But none of it matters if you don't use the features.

The PS2 may be powerful, but the documentation doesn't help!

Right now the XBOX just sits there gathering dust, but I have a feeling that soon I will be leaving my PC behind for a LOT of my gaming.

The Xbox is the ugly stepchild who is actually a skilled assasin/ninja. So far the games have been mediocre,(cept for HALO and Jet Grind Radio) but there are some exciting games on the horizon...almost feels like a sequal of the Dreamcast. Peter Molineux's 'B.C.' looks extrodinary. Panzer Dragoon Orta. Psyconauts. (My little pipe dream) Dead or Alive Xtreme Vollyball :). SW:Knights of the Old Republic. Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell. Steel Battalion. These are some nice titles (I think) are Xbox exclusives. Right now the XBOX just sits there gathering dust, but I have a feeling that soon I will be leaving my PC behind for a LOT of my gaming.
