can i have multiple maps on a character?

before i dived into modeling and mapping i thought it would be wise to see if there are any limits on the number of maps that i can put on a character or vehicle (without using different channels of course)

i saw the limits of polys somewhere and that falls within our limits, but as far as textures i'm still not sure... anyone know?

I know that with the DTS files that there is support for multiple textures per object. It is possible that you can create some performance issues if you use multiple textures and large textures sizes, so just be careful with how you use your textures :) I am not sure how it is with the DIF files though so hopefully someone can answer that.
