Selecting only one bject

Ok I am attempting to learn blender..so pray for me. :)
I'm kinda confused here.
I made a new project and deleted the default cube.
I made one icosphere and the center of the screen. I also made another one to right of the screen.
I deselected both of them when i was in edit mode, and object mode. (So now nothing is selected).
How do i select just one of the spheres?
For some reason I would go into edit mode and use the box tool to select one of the spheres. That works.
BUT!
when i switch to object mode both spheres are selected.
How can i fix this.
I just want to select 1 sphere.
I am totally new to this and since blender does not have "Official Forum" I hoping i can get help here.
