Poser 7 - transparent backgrounds??

by Brian Carter · in Torque Game Builder · 03/04/2008 (9:58 am) · 6 replies

I've been playing around with Poser 7, following "GamerGirl's" tutorial for creating 2D sprites from 3D meshes (www.garagegames.com/index.php?sec=mg&mod=resource&page=view&qid=11968), but I've hit a problem with Poser 7. I can't seen to get it to output a transparent background. Does anybody know how to do this ?

I've tried creating a 165x165 transparent background image in photoshop, and then loading it into Poser 7 for my figure, but when Poser renders the scene it places a white background on the rendered image.

Make sure you are rendering them to PNG's. If you're doing JPG's, they won't have an alpha channel.

I have it set to render out PNG's on the movie maker. I must be doing something wrong, but I just can't place what it is right now. If I clear the background image it places the rendered sprite on a default light grey background. If I load in a transparent 165x165 PNG (or even a PSD) file for the background it renders onto a white. Any ideas?

Can't you tell it what to render over in your movie preferences? It's been a while, but I thought that was where it was. Maybe that was in 6.

Yep, thats whats making this whole thing so bizarre - I've told it to render over the background image (even triple checked that its set to that). I will keep an eye on replies here, but I guess the best place to go is over to the Poser Pros forums and ask the question there. I'm stumped.

I just noticed that the rendered PNG image when loaded into photoshop doesnt have an alpha channel on it .. weird!

I redid the scene from scratch and the PNG output a transparent background - I dont know what was messed up with the first one I did, but the problem appears fixed.
