A3D Chapter 9 problem

I'm currently trying to do the swarming example listed on Advanced 3D Game programming all-in-one, but the code keeps on giving me this strange result where the bots keep getting stuck with each other on open space and the "friendless..." message keeps popping up on the console. Can anybody please help?
