Constructor 1.04 Mac test

by Jaimi McEntire · in Constructor · 02/10/2008 (1:46 pm) · 104 replies

I am releasing the 1.04 Macintosh version to whomever would like to test it. Most reports have come back OK, but one person reported a failure launching the application. This version should work in both 10.4 and 10.5 of OSX, and with an Intel Core, core2 and PPC G4 & G5.

If you test this, please post details on your testing environment, including Machine type, OS version, CPU type, amount of memory, etc.

This is a bugfix release! There is no new added functionality. This fixes some problems with loading of CSX files, lighting, and exporting of CSX files to DIF. Some internal list items were fixed that seems to have made portals more stable.

Please - If you have no intention of testing this application and reporting your findings, please do not download it!. Bandwidth is very limited, and once we get the OK from all testers, we can move this to somewhere where everyone can get to it at high speed.

The zip file is located here: www.aztica.com/images/Archive.zip

Put this zip file in your existing constructor 1.03 installation, and decompress it, overwriting all the files it wants to overwrite. You may need to re-enter your ignition key, so be sure to have that handy.

Thanks!

Jaimi

edit: Fixed link (thanks!)

Finally!
I can save & export!

EDIT:
I can't bring them in to Torque 1.5.2 though.

When I click on my .dif file in torque it leaves the editor and goes back to the main page and displays a dialog box

Dialog Box:
You do not have the correct version of the Torque Game Engine or the related art needed to connect to this server, please contact operator to obtain the latest version of this game. (Invalid packet.)

@altrius - it's missing some file or something. Did you copy the textures over?

Ok this is what i was getting under 10.5.5, 15" Powerbook G4 1GHZ with the 1.04 archive.zip I downloaded (note juste unzipping in the constructor folder did not help)

Now It seems to work after I re-downloaded, and copied the files individually into each sub-folders of the fresh (unused) 1.03 version and re-entered my key

I can now export to DIF hourai!, thanks for making it possible

And yes I can save finally!

Also, i'm just starting to learn this, could you recommend any video tutorial out there?

Thanks

There are some video tutorials here (a sample is free, but the indepth ones cost, but it's worth it):

http://arteria-gaming.com/constructor_tutorials.html

There are some PDF tutorials here - these are more task oriented.

http://web.mac.com/manged/iWeb/Constructor/Tutorials.html
http://tdn.garagegames.com/wiki/Constructor/ConstructorPdfTutorials

I recall there were some other freeware videos, but I can't recall the homepage right now. I also saw some on Youtube (but my work blocks it, so I can't send you the link right now - but you should be able to search it)

Thanks for that,

Yes i've heard good things about arteria's paid tutorials, but unfortunately their site is under construction, and i can't even find a way to contact them,

All the ones I've found on youtube are rubbish :), no sound, small pixelated, etc...

I downloaded it and when I copied it into my constructor folder, and opened the program it said , (before anything happened) that the application Constructor quit unexpectedly, what do I do?

Any updates?

Update: I have checked in all the code into SVN. I have not as yet asked anyone at GG to compile new release versions. When I get a chance this weekend, I will pull all the code, and do a full rebuild to make sure everything is right before I bug them.
I will then integrate all the plugins that I made in the normal mannder, including all of the source code for them. If I have time, I will fix a couple of other minor issues. This will then become constructor 1.06, and will ask if they can do a release build.

Sweet thanks. While we're at it, could you consider making a plugin that combines brushes? I know it won't work for a lot of situations (such as trying to fit a cube on the y axis to combine with one on the z axis) but it would be helpful for a lot of other uses.

Example, you want to combine these 8 brushes into 1 (different textures are applied to each just to show the brush divisions; in the end they will be all one texture):

Ignore the above. Not needed.

Any news?

If all you need is someone to build it on the mac platform I would love to offer up my services. The Mac community would really like to see an update for Constructor.

Any updates out there? We're approaching a month since the last update...

Don't be impatient- Jaimi is kindly taking time off his own schedule to do what GG just ditched.

It looks like Jaimi's work is done and the ball is no longer in his court. If no one pokes or sounds the greasy wheel these things will be forgotten. Should anyone need assistance in building things on a mac, I've offered, but I don't expect any response on that one.

If I still can, i would like to try it out.
I have a mac os leopard, so this would be perfect to use!

@Daniel - The link in the main message points to the archive, just download, extract it to a folder, and then copy the new files over.

Out of curiosity why has GG not updated the Constructor download with this patch. As it is, you cannot make interiors with the Constructor has for download, without this patch. I know it's free, but it would be nice if it worked without patching it too. ;)
