That's a good question Gustavo. We purchased and installed it, but haven't quite spun up development enough to truly use it. I definitely plan on getting back into using it next week, but it would be cool to see if there are any new updates or future plans.

Have you gone to their site yet and asked around?

Hi Michael,

I just visited their forum minutes ago and the last post was more then 1 year ago. Maybe a vaporware? I thought it would be supported officaly by GarageGames as the creator is a GG employee now.

Vaporware would mean that it doesn't exist, not that it exists and has been phased out.

I have no idea about the status of it, but I just wanted to say that it is definitely not vaporware because I actively use it. If it were vaporware, it wouldn't be used.

I had an issue with Overlord v2.2 not too long ago and submitted a support request through Garagegames.com. I received a quick response and resolution to my issue. This was a few months ago, but I'd venture to guess that you would get the same response.

I'm just sayin...

I'm pretty sure it's still supported, but updates seem questionable. Honestly though, I bought it and it wasn't money well spent.

Given that the person who wrote Overlord now works for GG, I think he has other priorities at the moment such as getting InstantAction to completion, and tooling away on the GreatGamesExperiment site.

It looks like a nice tool, but we're still not large enough to buy it IMHO (single dev ;-))

Well, one thing I know is that I've found some bugs that should be relatively easy to fix since we have the php source code. There's plenty of room for expansion, plug-ins, and bug fixing. The base product still works pretty well, and if we come up with any new stuff Zombie Shortbus will post it.

We've used Overlord for a while hoping they would fix bugs and publish some updates that would make it more useful. We do not have any extra programmers to spare to be able to fix bugs ourselves, we have enough work to do on our own project for 10 more people than we have. We are now looking for a different project management solution because Overlord isn't working out for us. 3 different developers on my team bought Overlord licenses, kinda sad that it didn't work out.

FWIW some of the features (some of these Overlord has, some it doesn't) that we need in a project management software include:

* Time Tracking
* Live Chat
-preferably with a voice chat option
* Milestones
-with linkable tasks
-and sub tasks
* The ability to restrict which users can see which projects
* A quick overview of tasks to be done page
* Progress time-line
* Developer blog, or Life feed of some sort
* connect to the SVN log would be nice (not required, but nice)
* Calender with good overview of goals and status
* Easily navigable addressbook of the user list
* Ability to remove a user from the team without corrupting the task list database (all tasks that user was assigned to become corrupted in Overlord)
* A nice User Overview page that will show what tasks are assigned to which people (or maybe who has nothing assigned to them)
- this page would have the users and tasks clickable so you could reassign tasks as needed
* Same thing with a Task overview page, so I could see what tasks have users assigned to them (and which don't)

Overlord seemed to have the framework in place to accomplish this, but just didn't quite get there with bug fixes and updates. It was ALMOST what we needed, but not quite. We have not yet found something that does meet our needs, but we are looking. It may turn out we have to use more than one tool to accomplish our needs. (We already use SVN, Wiki, Teamspeak, IRC, and a Mailing list - but some people can't access IRC and others can't use teamspeak, so would be nice to get a live chat thing built in to a tool.) Maybe we are trying to do some unique things with our virtual team that in-office teams don't experience. But this is what I would ideally like to see in a a project management tool.

fwiw, jira provides many of those features, although certainly not all. (actually it has quite a few optional extensions so it may).
it's about $1000.

* time tracking - i don't think so, but possibly
* chat - nope
* milestones - yes, in the form of "versions"
* project visibility - probably
* overview - yep
* progress time-line - yep, if you break progress down into resolvable tasks
* blog - nope.
* link to SVN - yep, via fisheye, another $1000 or so.
* calendar - to a degree
* addressbook - sure
* user removal - you have to first migrate all their issues to someone else
* tasks/assignment overview - in spades

is it worth $2000 ?
arguably not.
i find the SVN/Jira link to be extremely useful
especially when working with a largish team on a project that takes more than say a year to develop. when each SVN checkin is associated with some task in jira, it makes research and debugging way easier.

I purchased it and we used it for a while but none of the freelance contractors liked using it. In the future I would like a more updated version with a time billing feature so you can keep track of billing.

Im planning on giving overlord a try myself but it would be nice if you can update us when you find a working alternative.
