Realm Wars logo

by Nauris Krauze · in General Discussion · 09/17/2002 (1:48 am) · 15 replies

Here goes another Realm Wars logo wannabe. I tried to create something that wouldnt use usual fantasy atributes, instead focusing on "eternal conflict" stereotypes.

Slogan is sort of joke, I just added text to show how it looks in combination with logo. It means that txt and font could easily be subject to change.

This logo is compact and could be also used easily in web pages, it could even be easily be animated as .gif adding little motion to trees, lava and so on.

Photoshop geekness from the very scratch.

Hmm, I suppose, that's it.

Critics and comments are welcome.

I like it. It would also look super cool as a planet just Spherize it and throw in some clouds.

Version 1.1 of logo.

Sharpened up, lots of tiny details added. Pure PixelHunting:)

Is this better? And I am not sure about spherizing picture, it looks rather odd then. And I thought about main RW concept - island/continent of endless fight.

Hmm... some said, that picture can not be seen.

Here's a link to it:

Yeah, why not.
Only con: The white background is a little bit "bright". Some darker background would be better; a texture background instead of a diffuse color background also.

My 2 -Cent.

Edit:
And it should match a 4:3 (?) ratio, e.g. 1024x768.

IMO, it'd look better if the edges were leaving a trail of a smoke-like affect, sort of like a comet would look like in outer space. Of course, that's just my opinion, one of many.

Although the land design is pretty neat I have to wonder what purpose it has in the logo design? It seems to distract the viewers eyes away from the most important aspect of the logo which is "Realm Wars".

The font type that you are using is good, its got an old medievil style writing to it, but on the flipside it is bland and doesn't stand out or attract attention to itself. The text "Endangered Specis Unite..." is an interesting addition that you added but it doesn't need to be the same font size as "Realm Wars".

Overall you do have a decent idea here, but unfortunately my personal feeling is that it just wouldn't work as it is right now. Don't be disappointed though, logo design and branding is incredibly difficult to say the least.

Andreas,
I was aiming for logo which can be put on any kind of background. It looks mostly the same on all of them.
White color was chosen just because...welll..there had to be some color :)
So, it can easily be put on any 1024x768 background. For demonstration purposes I chose not to :)

Eli,
I think that smoke trail would need quite an amount of space and thus the core would be lost.
And I imagined it more of an island /:) But maybe there should be sort of beach waves all around the edges. I could try it out.

L Foster,
(q) "Although the land design is pretty neat I have to wonder what purpose it has in the logo design? It seems to distract the viewers eyes away from the most important aspect of the logo which is "Realm Wars". " (q)

I tend to disagree. IMO logo should be value by it self and later, when seen alone, should carry the same informational value as title itself.
I might be wrong however.

That is why All the text in picutre is merely a placeholder. I havent even worked on them yet, but I would like "Realm Wars" being even smaller and sort of stretched horizontally. Font is just a placeholder as well. (I found it in www.1001freefonts.com or something like that)

And the slogan is placeholder as well...well...by its very nature :D
oh, and it is smaller than "RW".

However, I understand your point, I just think I dont share the same view about logo, title and so.
No hard feelings:)

Just my 2 cents.

Hmm, That's a good one. Take care with your sharpen version, it makes some useless noise.
I think you should try to put the Realm Wars text ON the logo with some extra thing on it.

It's not really logic for the game theme but it could work.
It's my favorite for the moment...

I think this logo reflects the way current game logos are going. If you look at Jedi Knight or Quake the text is clearly not the focus. A dominant recognizable symbol is the center with a smaller title.

But if you look at the Jedi Knight II logo the elements of the logo contain key features related to the game.

realmwars.feylab.com/images/jk.png
You can see the JK initials, the II and of course the light sabre.

Then the stylized Quake logo's for the Q and game number.

Everquest has the EQ logo, Anarchy Online has the stylized A logo, Asherons Call uses a sylized AC symbol inside a circle, Unreal Tournament uses the Stylized U,Half-Life used a circle with the greek letter Lambda.

Point taken.

However, it seems that this logo is immune to any brand stuff, it doesnt want to let any letters in no matter how hard I try. It just doesnt, it exists on its own.

most.no-frills.net/images/rw3b_low.jpg

Arrgh, I guess it means just one thing - dont mess with oriental stuff. :(

I guess it can be used just and only as sort of symbol. I dunt knuw, maybe some clan wants to grab it, not that I care much now, I feel exhausted.

Maybe a different font... I can't put my finger on it but, the font doesn't look right with that logo... hmm... something about the colours and the size of the font... eah, just play around with it until it look cool!i! Don't listen to me >;)

It's nice and original but i'm not sure if it looks realmwarsy enough.

It's just my personal feeling, but I would like this texture as background:
In egypt, thousands of years ago, they used papyrus for papers. So a little bit bright yellow background with some brown shadings. (thinking about the background in rw\client\ui\gg_logo.jpg)

Because it's very difficult to combine "R" with "W", this asian peace sign (you know what I mean) is a good choice.

The font looks a bit oriental to me, but that's ok, maybe it should have a border.

In general, I would prefer colors from nature, outdoor ground, wood, earth, etc.. That's what suits to the RW outdoor levels.

That's no criticism, it's just some points that would this picture would look better to me. I would be proud if I had done such a logo.
So keep it up.

If the link doesn't work, copy and paste, I imagine.

It's the third one down. I don't really like the R, since a R just won't ever seem to fit with whatever font you use, but oh well.

I think, I'll start this from scratch, using different color palette and building it more Letter Friendly as now it seems almost impossible properly include "W".
Thanks for all your responses, I'll be off-line for almost week as I'm relocating to Geneva.
