Turn Based strategy question

I was wondering if I would be able to create a turn based strategy game (similar to final fantasy tactics) with TGE? I want to create most of the levels/Items/characters with 3ds Max then Import them into torque and do all the programming and rendering in the engine.
1. Is this possible
2. If so are there any tutorials for this? If there aren't could anyone give me some advice on what books to buy.what I should do? Thank you to everyone for reading this and for any help.

Does TGB support full 3d? I want an isometric or orthographic camera, but with high detailed characters and landscape. The landscape would have the overlaying tile system of course.

No, TGB is 2D, the isometric view have to be simulated. TGE line, is 3D. As Lee says, the TGE + RTS kit, would be the best option if what you need is 3D.

Nate, just so you are fully warned, the RTS kit sold here is no longer supported by Garage Games. That being said, Novack and James have made wonderful strides at keeping the RTS kit alive here. If you have questions about the RTS kit, Novack and James are definately people who you can trust.

Anyways, I just wanted to pipe in and say that TGB supports 3D models, but there is not any kind of perspective on them because there is no Z axis in TGB. Basically, TGB would be a better bet if you knew that you could keep all the action on one plane and still create a fun game. Entirely possible.

Oh man, I thought you were talking about me for a while, because I almost posted here an hour ago. I was like: "Uhhhh . . ."Anyways, I just wanted to pipe in and say that TGB supports 3D models, but there is not any kind of perspective on them because there is no Z axis in TGB. The only bad thing I can see by not having a Z axis is that takes out my height constraints. I was going to have height = more damage and such for strategy. Are there any tutorials with the RTS kit that could help me out? Thank you to everyone for being very helpful I really appreciate it.

However you have to know the basics of TGE or you will feel a bit confused using it.

Not really, dont know about tutorials on the RTS kit. The RTS-SK is a modification of TGE to have the very basics of an RTS engine, as the camera, the minimap, unit selection and control, lobby, and various network optimizations. However you have to know the basics of TGE or you will feel a bit confused using it.

@Kevin James: No, I was not referring to you. I guess I should have linked the names I meant. Sorry, didn't mean to give you a scare :)
Torque Owner Lee Latham
Default Studio Name
It would be simplest to do it in script.
Sorry, don't know about tutorials....
