For the past 48 hours I have sporadically received the following error when attempting to access the forums

Service Unavailable

the reference number keeps changing.

Is there an issue with the website?

I was getting the error for most of the afternoon yesterday. Almost made it two months without it.

I still get this as well.
I've pretty much just accepted it as part of life.

Same here. It's daily off and on. Has been for well over a month now for me. Really a pain when I need to log into the forums, resources or TDN to find something only to be SOL.

I haven't been able to get on except with the IP address for days now. I'm sorry, it seems like an extremely easy problem to fix. You change web hosts.

You are not an ebay, requiring a staggering amount of traffic. It's just a standard professional website. There are thousands of hosts that would be able to host your site with zero access issues. As a former web hosting site owner, it's ridiculous in this era of hosting as a commodity that you can't find simple working hosting for your standard, average traffic website.

@Tetraweb--just so you know, the issue lies with Akamai, not our hosting service. They've acknowledged it but as yet have been unable to figure out what the problem is.

I'm not sure if it's at all useful, but a tracert for me ends at the following akamai location while I'm getting service failures

a96-6-179-193.deploy.akamaitechnologies.com [96.6.179.193]

I'll check it again later when I can reach the forums without garagegames.com instead of the IP address.

EDIT: 96.6.131.193 is where it's routing me now and works fine (about 2 hours later).

EDIT AGAIN: Another non-working route several hours later pointed towards: 72.247.131.193

This has been happening to me too. :(

Well, i noticed that i couldn't get to certain pages from google because of that error message, but i had posted on a few of those pages and when i went into my account and accessed the pages through the place where it lists all of your posts - it worked! And then testing the google route, to the same page, didnt work again.

The ip address works! That makes me happy.

Still getting it every day.

@Stephen, Akamai is your hosting service.

They own that netblock, so you either host your site directly in their datacenter or you buy your hosting from a reseller who does. Either way, a new host would solve the problem.

Can't log in to the TDN either, it redirects to a www.garagegames ... login page and then fails.

Eric : "I still get this as well.

lol. I agree. I've been having the same problem. I'm a new member. It really strange because someone else on my team can access the help pages with their account but at the same time I can't. It doesn't matter if we're using Firefox, IE or Opera.

At least now with TGEA Beta some of the documentation is offline. But i agree it is really annoying especially when your new to TGEA and trying to learn. But we'll just have wait for the smart people at GG to figure it out.

Adding "origin-" to it works for me every time, at least on garagegames.com proper (haven't tested on TDN).

ie, the link to this thread would be: origin-www.garagegames.com/mg/forums/result.thread.php?qt=71392

Looks like something to do with duplicate session identifiers at the domain level, maybe?

The origin- trick does not work for TDN unfortunately.

Never saw that origin- tag, what is it?

Ugh, i thought i was the only one with this problem. I can't get into TDN or the forums on any computer or any provider so far (after the first visit of the day). I can't even visit the support page to get an email address to complain to.

This also stops me from looking @ products to buy. Took me a few hours to buy the side scroller kit for TGB because of this bug. Doesn't seem to affect the whole page at once either. IE the store won't work but the forums will.

You would think they could fix this by now.

Could be a big issue. How many issues with windows 95 still creep up today? :)
