Mesh hiding, textures and other such magics

I have implented a mesh hiding feature, which is nifty because of reasons i guess i dont have to explain =) Anyways, i was wondering if it is possible to change the textures of the given meshes at the fly? There are some resources aroun that allows textures to be mounted on the model, but i get the feeling that said resources actually mounts the textures on the primary mesh(if such is the logic behind mesh hiding), and any meshes enabled dont get effected by the change of texture. Is this corect? On the contrary, the primary mesh on the kork model would be the bodyMesh, which i can disable, making me belive that there is no such thing as a primary mesh?
Edit: is this what i am looking for:

Btw: i recently played halo 3 on xbox live, whats up with the kids today? They never shoot unless they know that its gonna take less than 3 secs to hit and kill their target, which basically makes them sitting ducks for people born of 88 like me. And there seems to be some untold competition to who can include most cursewords into one sentence. Was i like that when i was twelve?
