Looking for a programmer

Hello,

I am looking to start a game company, I am currently working on a business plan and a design doc for an RPG... what I dont have is a programmer... Even if you are with another project I would still like to talk to you since while putting together my business plan and docs... there are questions I have that only someone with knowledge in coding could answer.

So what can I bring to the table besides just an "Idea Guy"? Well, I have knowledge of starting a game company (In another thread here I posted a URL of another company I was with. The design is the only thing that people enjoy about the game. Email me if you want the whole story) I am also quite knowledgeable in Maya. So I can create art in both the 3d and 2d realm.

Please drop me a message if you are interested!

Someone who writes the design documents is the design (go figure). If your starting up the company I would recommend learning what it is to be a producer or programmer as those role's fits nicely with game design . Designing a game usually only takes a few months and most of it happens before actual production.

Im new to torque script but feel free to ask me any programming related questions or questions related to starting your studio. Ive recently done the same thing and it was a very enlightening experience.

Actually, in all the game companies I worked for.. the design doc was always a colaberation between all teams...
and I'd like to get this company started on the right foot as well.

One of my main questions is how to write something for the browser based industry? Instead of jumping in both feet and saying " I want to create the next great MMoRPG!" or "This is going to be like Oblivion, but BETTER!" I'd like to start small and just make a small game or two to find a team that gels well together and then use a finished product to canvas VC companies for funding for a game on the large market scale.

If the game is going to be browser based... what code would that be in? Would that be in PHP? or is it possible to combine code.. like write something in C and then embed it in a web browser?

Thanks again.

EDIT: Oh and if something is written for the browser based industry how difficult would it be to change the code so it would work in something else ... like lets say a downloadable game for XBox Live?

Thanks again again

My advice to you would be to start small.

A RPG is a pretty big project to start a company around, unless you are going after VC's/Investor's.

*EDIT*

How dare you come back and post like that ... you stole my wind. LOL.

Browser based could be php with mysql for the database.

If your an artist you could download phpbb and rpg mod. Its basically a full on browser rpg but you must supply your own art.

.. on the other hand installing phpbb and some art won't impress investor's

Ah ok... I did some research over the last few days and I guess php would be great for things like turn based... not really practical in what I am looking for.

Well, the plan is this... the company would make games like SpiderWeb Software http://www.spiderwebsoftware.com/ but more along the lines of old school ist person 3D dungeon crawls like Wizardry on the NES, Shining in the Darkness for the Genesis or Ultima Underworld for the PC. It would be something folks could download off of a site and wander around... certain areas, items and quests would be 'locked' unless you opt to pay. So that way the player can still wander around and have fun... but there are bonuses to ante up the ol credit card.

The reason I said browser since I was wondering how the window would operate... these would be something small like in a separate window like Tetris (so you could play it in a separate window at work Wink If that makes sense )

I noticed a lack of decent RPGs for the PC so there is definitely a niche market here.. just how to get the party started is the hurdle I am jumping

Thanks for the imput
